Rear radio controlls???

I took a road trip this weekend wit the family. This is the first time that my son (8 years old) wanted to use the ear phones from the overhead console in the rear. No matter what we did we could not make them work. We looked at the owners manual for about an hour at the motel and could never get them to work. From reading the manual, the person in the rear would be able to listen to cd, radio, or aux from the rear even though I would be listening to something else. Is there a TSB on this? Am I missing anything? Any help on this issue before Thursday afternoon would be appreciated. I am taking it back for other things things afternoon. Thanks in advance.

Re: Rear radio controlls???

First if you hit the rear controls, was the status off or on, secondly, you have to deactive the rear speakers using the button with headphone + Speaker image in it. Then the rear should function independent of the front.

Re: Rear radio controlls???

yes the headphone symbol on the head unit was on. And yes the rear console had controll (the head unit said it did). Is this what you meant. Still no headphone usage .

Re: Rear radio controlls???

Might be a stupid question but did the head phone have batteries? Reason I ask was recently one kid started complaining that her headphone don't work but my son's headset work fine. I checked the battery and it was dead. Also the rear has a volume control (once you enable the rear controller, it is a seperate volume control) if it's down low you won't hear anything.

Re: Rear radio controlls???

I tried two different headsets. Both did not work. I'll work with it later today and see what happens. ?????????????

Re: Rear radio controlls???

I would check the rear volume level, let us know what you find.

Re: Rear radio controlls???

Here is what I found. with me in the front and my son in the rear we could not make it work. When I started looking at it in the rear, I found the error of my ways. Thank you baseballfans. It was the seperate volume controls that was getting us. We had the front controll down so that we could talk. When the rear controlls were activated, we needed to turn the volume way up to hear the sound. It is also hard to see the lights telling you CD,radio,aux... in the day time. At night it is easy to see. Thanks alot to all.
