FYI: New Drive Shaft TSB for 2006 Titan/Armada

Got this in the mail today. To those who affected should get something in the mail.

Dear Nissan Owner,

Applies for some 2006 model year Nissan Titan and Armada four-wheel drive equipped vehicles, there is a possibility that the bolts attaching the front drive shafts to the front final drive assembly may not have been tightened properly. This may result in the front drive shafts coming loose and cause a vibration or noise in the vehicle front end.

If the front drive shaft becomes disconnect, it may be damaged or cause damage to other vehicle components. However, the ability to control the vehicle will not be affected.

What Nissan will do

To prevent this from occuring, Nissan is conducting a Service Campaign to retighten the front drive shaft bolts to the proper specification. This free service should take about one hour to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

What you should do

Contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience in order to arrange an appointment to have your vehicle repaired.
Please bring this notice with you when you keep your service appointment. Instructions have been sent to your Nissan dealer. If you have additional questions you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan North America, Inc. at P.O. Box 191, Gardena, Ca. 90248-0191. The toll free number is 800 647 7261.

Thank you for your cooperation. We are indeed sorry for any inconvenience this may caused you.

I received the same letter today. I'm not real happy but, not really a big deal I guess. Just a little surprised Nissan is still having assembly line problems(i.e. low rear diff fluid).

Re: FYI: New Drive Shaft TSB for 2006 Titan/Armada

I got the same thing in the mail. Called Nissan to set appt to have it fixed and was told that they weren't aware of any problems so far but would be glad to take it in and fix it. Am supposed to drop it off today to get taken care of and even get the oil changed. With a bit of luck they might even give me a rental rig to putt around with while they do the stuff. So far I am really happy with the Beaverton Oregon Nissan dealership.

This recall is for the front axle shafts. For some reason they call the axle shafts "drive shafts" which is true since they "drive" the front wheels but it confuses people. If you can get a hold of the recall document there are pictures of what the procedure consists of.

Re: FYI: New Drive Shaft TSB for 2006 Titan/Armada

Took the 2006 in today for the Drive Shaft check. My notice from Nissan stated, quote "This free service should take about one hour to complete"... it took about 15 minutes. The dealer was so nice, I asked if they would change the "factory" oil to Mobile One, which I brought. They said sure, even gave me a new oil filter N/C. I was out of there in about 30 minutes. The Drive Shaft bolts were OK. Though I cannot verify that, just have to accept their word.

Re: FYI: New Drive Shaft TSB for 2006 Titan/Armada

Took my 2006 finally in for this recall.

TSB NTB06-012 Tech checked both front axle flange bolts and found no loose bolts. Loosened all bolts and torqued all flange bolts to 54ft.lbs.

No Problem found.

Service advisor said that it was a good idea that i brought it in for them to check it out.
