The 50 to 70 mph Chirp

If you have it you know it! It is a chirping sound that only occurs at 50-70mph. It is not a rattle or squeak. It is a chirping sound that sounds like a cricket. It is in the dash area, I think. I have read other posts and I know others have it as well but nobody has come forward with a fix. As anybody found out were it is coming from and how to fix it?????

Thanks

Re: The 50 to 70 mph Chirp

It mite be in the middle of the inst. cluster were the clear plastic shield meets the grey plastic. At that speed I notice it to and think I pin pointed it there. I did have a pic of it long ago but that thread is gone.

Next time you hear press on that area right above were the Nissan Logo on your steering wheel is. And see if that helps. If you need a pic I can post later if I still have it.

Nope, not the panel. It seems to be coming from under the dash. Some have sugessted the weather stipping but I have sprayed those and it didn't help. I am going to check on the seat bolt today but I don't think that is it either.

Re: The 50 to 70 mph Chirp

I had a chirp/squeek at 60+ MPH. It took about 2 months and 2 dealerships before it was fixed. It turned out to be the gas shocks attached to the hood. Try removing them, then drive around and see if that's the cause of your noise. If so, reinstall them and take it to your dealer with your findings and they should be able to replace them for you.

Other people reported adding a gounding cable, tightening this bolt and that bolt, looking for cracked headers, I think I looked and tried them all before finally going to the dealership.....

Happy hunting

I'll be looking into that. I've always had it, worse in cooler weather. Now doing it in warm weather. Definitely speed dependent, not at all related to road roughness. Thanks.

Re: The 50 to 70 mph Chirp

Yeah I had to be going at least 60 MPH. Most of the time I could get it to squeak if I punched it at 60 and then let off. It would squeak once when I punched it and then it would squeak a couple more times after I let off. I also had another noise if I got over 80, but both noises were fixed by the gas shocks being replaced.

It didn't make much sense to me how this could be causing my noise, but it was. I've been free of that noise for about 7-8 months and I'm loving it. It was almost so annoying, that I had thoughts of getting rid of it, but I think my wife would have John Bobbited me! YIKES

I'll be d@mned.....I oiled the gas shock and all the hinges to the hood and it seemed to work I would have never guessed that is were the noise was coming from. I am going to give it a few days before I do any celebrating though.

Thanks meckman
