Re: AC smell

I've got an 05 Titan and live in Houston. I had a touch of "that smell". Quite a tune by Lynyrd Skynyrd I might ad! Back to the point I didn't do anything about it last year. All through the winter no issues. Now spring time pops up, start using the A/C and bam I've got a MAJOR dose of "that smell". I've used the fresh vs. max A/C tactic and even that hasn't solved the problem although it did help a bit. I imagine if I turned the A/C for approx. 5 minutes before I shut the truck off it would solve the smell problem. I'd just die of heat stroke in the Houston heat. So, I dropped the glove and removed the cover for the micro filter. Low and behold there isn't one on my model XE. So I took the Lysol approach and sprayed directly into the slot for the filter. Used the clean fabric scent to avoid the hospital smell and it worked like a charm. I've been running for a week without the problem, hopefully it will get me through the summer but if not it's a 15 min job to do. Hope this helps.

Re: AC smell

When this happens I tell my passengers to please ignore my stinky feet, we will be there soon.

Then I change the incabin filter. You can get one even if your truck did not come with it. My 05 SE did not come with one either, but I did install one, it drops right in.

Re: AC smell

I plan on installing the filter now that I've removed the smell. I don't believe adding a filter without killing the mildew living in the coil would have ridded me of that stench. I do think the filter will prolong the timeframe before this rears it's ugly head again.
