i also posted a poll in the general discussion area please vote as im going to use this to show that the humm is not normal as the majority of titans do not have this.or prove to myself that it is normal and it is time to trade this thing for something else

Re: nissan engineer says the diff humm is normal how many of you have a humming diff?

I have an 05 with about 16K. I have had the humm since new. I have changed the rear diff fluid a few times and everytime looked like honey. No shavings, no burnt fluid. I have driven a few Titans, 04 05 06, and they have all hummed. You can hear the humm at around 50-60 mph.

By the way, the Tundra does it as well. They actually put in a special fluid to keep the noise down.

I had the hum at 50 in my Frontier and after demanding a new rear the service writer gave in and put a new one in. Guess what? The hum was gone and for the next two years of ownership it never came back.

Re: nissan engineer says the diff humm is normal how many of you have a humming diff?

I have 38,000 miles on my truck now. I started noticing the humming about 5,000 miles ago. Wondering if my diff is going to explode or not. It's under warranty still, so if it goes it goes. I've decided to "oh well" all of my trucks problems away.

I've already changed out the fluid to the 75 140 synthetic and I was thinking about purchasing the new finned cover and putting it on this summer. If I do that, I will peek at the gears and take some pics. Maybe someone more qualified than myself would be able to tell if things are holding up OK in there.

Re: nissan engineer says the diff humm is normal how many of you have a humming diff?

My dealer had it for 3 days and could not get it to consistantly humm. They have it now, and just gave me an altima. I have an 04 with 26k and it started 3 weeks ago. It sometimes humms leaving my driveway, then goes away. Other than that, everything else is fine. No way it is normal, and even the mechanics at the dealership are puzzled.(they could be idiots). All I konw is that if I wanted a Hummer, I would have bought that piece of crap instead. If they can't figure it out, I am going to demand a new one(not the first problem I had.

good luck im on diff number 5 so far ive only herd a noise from it once and it hasnt came back.we will see most of them have lasted about 3k before being full of steel shavings and humming so bad you couldnt stand it.it is not normal for any hellical cut gear set to humm.i have had 200k mile diffs be as silent as you please.so there is no way in hell im going to believe this is normal.
