Fenton Nissan West -- OKC/Team Nissan -- Scottsbluff, Nebraska
This is a tale of two dealer service departments and one problem.
Background:
My Titan's parking brake began slipping a few weeks ago and I finally got around to taking it in for adjustment. (Yes, I know the tension cable on the pedal can be adjusted with a 10 mm wrench, but to CORRECTLY adjust the brake a little more effort is required.) The brake has always just barely engaged since new.
Six days ago -- as in AFTER the parking brake began slipping -- I had a Truetrac differential installed by -- what else -- a differential shop.
I first took the pickup to Fenton Nissan West in Oklahoma City on Northwest 39th Expressway on Wednesday. For over two hours -- yes, I had an appointment -- I waited. The service advisor (I believe her name was Peggy) finally came and got me and said she wanted to show me something that the technician had found. They noticed oil stains on the rear hubs (like what would result when axle shafts were removed from an axle housing), a spot of Permatex on a brake line (like what would result if someone touched it when reinstalling a differential cover), and "tool marks" on the axle hardware (like what result if the axle shafts had been disassembled). The service advisor starts in by telling me that they can't find anything in the service history of my pickup indicating that warranty work had been performed on the rear end and that the dealer who sold me the pickup hasn't been straight with me. She goes on to say that the reason the parking brake wasn't holding was due to the brake linings being contaminated with gear oil causing the pads to slip. (Ever HAD brake shoes or pads contaminated with oil or grease? The results are quite different.) She wants me to talk to the dealer and find out what they're hiding, but in the mean time they're going to need to replace the rear axle bearings, axle seals, brake linings, and R&R the rotors. All of the parts and service will, of course, be on Nissan North America's dime and provided by my warranty coverage.
After spending good money buying my Truetrac and having it installed by a specialist, the last damned thing I want is some Jethro-looking monkey taking it all apart in an effort to scam Nissan North America. (There's no love lost between Nissan and me, but I don't want to be part of someone else's nefarious little game.) So I responded, "NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!! I'm not calling any-damned-one and whatever you think is going on in the rearend doesn't have squat to do with the brake system!!!!"
Fenton Nissan West: boneheads or con artists? You make the call.
In the interim I turned the pedal adjustment nut down by two or three flats so that the brake would again hold.
Yesterday I was on a trip passing through Scottsbluff, Nebraska (also visit fuel economy thread) and thought I'd take advantage of a little spare time I had by visiting their Nissan dealership: Team Nissan. The service advisor with whom I spoke, Doug Thompson, got the vehicle in and out in slightly more than an hour and had the brake adjusted according to Hoyle as indicated in the factory service manual. No BS, just fixed the problem and sent me on my way.
Fenton Nissan West broke the door on my truck and will not fix it. They sprung the door so now it doesn't line up correctly. They are con artists.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all know. Everybody hates you, your pickup has everything wrong with it, etc., etc. Ad nauseum. A search of your username reveals a litany of BS complaints that seems to indicate an ulterior motive. Just give us all a break. For a change.

I know Doug and the boys there and they are all great people. Good to hear that you got it fixed even if it was taken care of a couple states away. Looks like you'll have to do a little traveling to get you truck fixed for now on!

I can't say enough good things about Doug and the people at Team Nissan. They were totally professional and extremely accomodating and courteous.

Good luck getting your truck to work past 50,000 miles or even getting the dealership to fix it. If you look in car magazines you will see the reliability raiting for the Titan is BLACK, the worst rating it could get. You saw for yourself you can't get any service for your truck without a fight. I can't wait til Nissan buys my truck back. It is built poorly. I can't wait to drive in a new ford for 100,000 miles.

Just passed 50K on my 04, truck is excellent, other than the well known brake problem. After the final fix was done at about 20K it has had no other problems (don't even have brake dust how great is that?). I have had several other trucks and I have never had one as good as this one, I get up every day, get in my truck, and enjoy driving it to work. I Can't say enough about how good it is, to bad your having problems.

Rant, rant, rant; whine, whine, whine. Your juvenile little games have little bearing and little to do with my situation.
Really, there's no need for your reply here. Everyone who has spent any time on this board knows that you've created complaints and reasons to whine about your Nissan in a vain attempt to get out of your financial responsiblities. I am quite sure that you take advantage of the anonymity provided by the internet, because it's not likely that you have the balls to complain in person.
Try getting a Ford and getting it serviced at Prestige Ford (now Gwartney Ford), Country Ford, Bob Howard Downtown Ford, Joe Cooper Ford, or Diffee Ford. It's no different.
I'm sure after you get your Ford, you'll get in over your head financially and start looking for ways to dump it via constant whining on an internet message board.
Why your *** isn't thrown off of here for using this board to carry out a personal agenda, I'll never know.

Financial responsiblities? Yeah I want to get out of it because paying $30,000 for a truck that leaks and the dealership can't fix it is bs. If I was selling it to a dealership and they knew it leaked I would prob be luck to get $10,000 for the damn thing.
I don't know why you feel the need to attack me. All my claims are legit. You would be upset too if everytime you drove through a puddle the inside of your truck got wet. There is another post on here where someone just bought a new Titan off the lot and now they have a puddle of water in it. Go ahead and do a search and you will see how many people have problems with their trucks leaking water and how hard it is to get it fixed!! I have a lemon and I'm working to get rid of it!

No one has attacked you, but a spade is a spade. You have used this website as your personal grievance center and you have quite literally posted an alleged problem with every single item on your pickup. A simple search of your username will confirm that for anyone who has any doubts.
If you had a legitimate claim -- and you sure as hell don't -- you would have no problem getting an attorney to handle this matter on a contingency basis. (Ask your mommy and daddy to tell you what "contingency" means.) The fact is no self-respecting attorney wants to touch you or your baseless and immature claims with a ten-foot pole. I think that says more about you than you have the intelligence and temerity to grasp.
Of course, I shouldn't expect anything different from an eighteen-year-old kid.
If you manage to get another vehicle, the smart money says you'll lose interest in it and start whining and crying for a way out on some other website.
And lastly, this thread was started by me to describe how two different dealer service departments dealt with a single problem. It wasn't meant as a launching platform for another of your "grievances." It's obvious that you have nothing of value to add to this thread. I think you're much better off playing with your Star Wars action figures and posting in a more appropriate setting for your age group such as myspace.com.
I don't think I've ever applied my emergency brake on this truck...maybe I'd better give it a stab just to see if it works.
It seems to be a fairly common problem, but an easy fix. My belief is that most of the pickups aren't set correctly from the factory. (Maybe the person who did it retired or quit and Nissan forgot to replace him.)

Yep, fairly common issue, but easy fix. My dealership had me in and out in no time and it has worked fine ever since.
