Squeaking Seat Fix

I was just looking at the Nissan TSBs and found the squeaking passenger seat and it looks pretty straight forward. Aside from picking up a bottle of threadlock I have everything needed, including a rivot gun. I would prefer not to have to leave my truck at the dealership all day and risk them screwing something else up. Is it advisable to do a TSB yourself? Are there any consequences? All you have to do is remove the seat, put some thread lock on the bolts holding the seat back on, then rivit it for extra support. Am I missing something or is it as easy as that?

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

MOST people who have mechanical knowledge have attacked the seat squeek issue on their own.

This is usually done after the dealer fails to fix the problem but I see no harm in attempting to fix it yourself.

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

I have narrowed down my seat squeak to the seat belt latch. The squeak goes away when unbuckled, but is constant when buckled in. I haven't found the solution yet, and the dealer has since replaced the buckle with the squeak returning a few weeks later.

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

I had the same passenger side squeak issue and brought my Titan into the dealership 3 times.

The first time, the Service Manager told me that the TSB didn't apply since I didn't have the fold flat seat. This is crap since I have the captain's chairs.

The second time, they could not reproduce the squeak.

The third time, I emailed the General Manager and demanded that the Service Department fix the issue this time. When I brought my Titan into the Service Department, I had the Service Manager come out to my truck so he could hear the squeak himself.

Needless to say, after a bit of complaining to the right people, no more squeaky seat. I also had the new front brake pads installed (mine was squeaking at 1750 miles, so the dealership just turned my rotors) and I will have the extension hose installed on the AC drain once they get the part in stock. I was also given an Altima to drive while they had my truck in for service.

All I can say is to be persistent and don't give up. Could I have fixed this problem myself? Probably, but when I spend over $30K for an automobile, I expect the dealership to fix all my issues (big or small). That's what the warranty is for, in my opinion.

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

It doesn't matter if someone is sitting in the seat or not. The TSB still applies and you can get it fixed.

Mine started out when someone sat in the seat, but after a few weeks, it was squeaking non-stop regardless of someone was sitting in the seat or not. I had to blast my RF radio just to drown out the noise.

I undertand that but we are talking about a fairly easy fix, one that doesn't require any parts because many mechanical people will have the required items already. When you factor in that its a less than 1 day repair so even if you have the extended Nissan warranty that gets you a rental car (I don't) you still won't get one. So you have to either mess with dropping the car off and bumming rides for the rest of the day, or using the shuttle most dealerships have. Bottom line, if you have them do it, you have wasted much more of your day than if you had just done it yourself. If it was like BMW where they give you a loaner BMW while they are changing your oil, that would be a different story.

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

I was reading the TSB- it states that this applies to the manual fold flat seats only. I have power/ heated seats and mine make the rattling noise???

Re: Squeaking Seat Fix

You are right, the fix for the seat squeak is not for LE's.The back of my seat squeaked something fierce. The only way to stop the squeak was to fold seat all the forward or backward. The dealer had to call Nissan to find out what to do. It was obvious, at least to me what the problem was, loose bolts. Just like everything else in the interior, they never tightened anything down.Later the dealer said they had to get permission from Nissan to fix it, or they wouldn't get paid for warranty work.
It was easy to see if the squeak was fixed. Lift the latch near the headrest, tilt the back of the seat forward, then smack the seat back so that it latches. If you hear a squeak it is not fixed.
