problem with shifter

I have an 05 XE 4x4 w/preferred package and I tried to use the manual shift button on the shifter this morning and it didn't do anything. I checked some fuses and things but didn't see anything. I'm planning on dropping it off at the dealer Mon. but just thought I'd ask and see if anybody had this problem before or knowed of something other that I could check, like if there is one fuse for that maybe I missed. In case some of ya haven't seen these, there is a button on the end of the column shifter that you push and then you can manually go between 1st and 4th gears. Thanks

Re: problem with shifter

Ok, A/C parts are on backorder. They said they replaced the shifter and I looked on the back of the shifter and the little scuff I put there is still there, so unless they just replaced the guts of it, they lied. I could have sworn that when I first bought the truck it would go to manual without moving the truck. It didn't at the dealership and they said that they would talk to the tech in the morning because this guy tried it also and it wouldn't work. I tried it when I got moving on my street and it worked ok. Turned the truck off and tried it again, nothing, but when I started moving again it would work. I tried this several times and got the same results. If anybody else could check their truck and see if it works that way I would appreciate it.

Hey src4usarmy did you ever get your manual shift fixed.? I too have a problem (I believe) with my 05 Titan. Just bought it a couple days ago and was trying to get it to go into manual shift mode. Not real clear on how it works, but when i push the button nothing happens. It's my understanding that when you push the button, your gear selector display switches to M1,
M2, etc. Then you can shift with the button. Is this correct. Can you only enter manual shift mode once the vehicle is moving, or can you put it in manual shift from a stop? I haven't really got much (good) info from my regional dealership service dept.'s. Any input would be appreciated.

You are correct. You should be able to do it while stopped or moving as long as you aren't going too fast. I was told my switch was replaced and when it didn't work, they said the tranny had to get to operating temp. It hasn't worked at all since then even after driving it for a while. I'm waiting on the parts for the A/C to come in and they are going to check it again when they fix the a/c. The ticket on the switch before said that they checked the continuity (spelling?) and the switch was bad. I'll keep ya updated as soon as I here something. I'm going to call today, I'm getting a little irritated.

Mine was also shifting/working sporatically. Took it in, they found a short inside the column shifter and then replaced it - all aok, it has been over a year now. The tranny does not need to 'warm up'.

Re: problem with shifter

Took it in this morning and the a/c is fixed. The switch was bad before and it did work when they replaced it but the tech told me when i picked it up today that when he installed the new one he didn't put the harness back in the exact same position as before and when I pulled the shifter down it had pulled it loose but it is working good now. Have to give them an A+ for being honest, most service depts. i've dealt with would have just said it came loose or something.
