Question noise

Have any of you guys had the problem of a metal to metal tapping sound from under the dash area on the passenger side or maybe coming from the passenger side door? It can be heard over the radio at times. Thanks for your help!

Re: noise

Yes, and I can not find it. It is driving me nuts, but I'm holding off until I take it to the dealership for the first oil change to bring it in as it doesn't seem like a major problem.

I am convinced it is something with the passenger seat because whenever I actually have a passenger in the car it does not do it.

Re: noise

It's the seat belt latch rattling on the side of the truck.

Re: noise

Definitely not the seat. Got the wife to go for a ride and she thinks it's coming from the passenger side of the dash or the front of the passenger door.

Re: noise

I raised my shoulder height adjuster and it moved the latch to a location where it doesn't rattle anymore.

Now if I could just get my mother in law to quit rattling while she is in the truck....

Re: noise

At first I thought it might be the seat - has a tsb on it anyway - carried to the dealership - some loctite and pops - still has the problem - then my old lady ( I mean wife ladies -), sat in the passenger side with the seat belt on .. says it coming from the dash near the A pillar or somewhere in that area.

Who the crap knows? I have adjusted the wiring/flex loom under the dash and put felt on any moving part - just don't know. I'm going to wrap a towel around the seat buckle just to make sure that sound isn't traveling towards the front. Happy Rattle Hunting

Re: noise

Exactly where my wife said she thought the noise was coming from. I'm thinking I am going to have to take a trip to the dealership as it is a near constant rattle when I am on the highway and it's driving me nuts.

Re: noise

If you get there before I do, let me know what they find. I'll do the same and keep everyone posted on any changes. Thanks.

Re: noise

Crawl under the truck and spray some silicone or WD-40 on the frame/body bushing right underneath the floorboards. Your ticking/tapping sound will then go away.

Re: noise

After the noise being constant for a week, as soon as made the appointment it has gone away, debating whether to still take it in or not...

Re: noise

This may help some of you guys. I had a terrible squeak, but it was hard to narrow down where it was coming from. Sometimes I thought if was coming from outside, other times from the door or the dash.
These pictures are from the passenger side. You remove the glove box as if you are going to change your cabin filters. These same bolts are also on the drivers side, but all you have to do is remove the rubber plug for access.
I was able to get about two good turns with the ratchet to tighten them up.

Close up view, socket is on on the lower bolt.

Re: noise

Nice, thanks! I'll check these out. I ended up not cancelling my appointment and my rattle came back on the way home last night (probably because my car was sitting in the cold all day and the metal wherever it is at shrunk a little).
