Broken steering rack (I.e. rack and pinion steering) goes out on brand new truck
New 06 4x4 crew cab with Fabtech 6" basic kit on 18" KMC's and 35" procomp Extreme A/T's w/ 10K miles. Pulling into the In n Out drivethru, my power steering went completely out, so I jumped out and noticed that all of the power steering fluid was leaking out everywhere.
So, I take it to the shop whom did my lift, tires, etc. and they say it has nothing to do with the lift. So, I take it over to Nissan and they lift it up on the jacks to find that the steering rack has seperated exposing the actual shaft inside.
They tried to blame the lift, but after I contacted customer relations @ Nissan, they were able to determine that there was no proof that the broken rack was due to the lift kit so they went ahead and warrantied it. Total was almost 2K after parts and labor.
The thing is once I got the truck back the steering is night and day better and I believe there was something wrong with it all along.
Just hoping to get the word out that if you are having probs with your steering, or lack of steering or very poor turning radius (I thought it was due to the large tires and lift kit) you may have the same issue. Get it checked out ASAP!
Has anybody else had this issue?
