when i hit a speed bump, or if i drive off (not up) a curb, i hear a loud banging type noise coming from the rear of the truck, i have narrowed it down to the Right Rear... i also noticed it does it if i am using the brakes and hit an even smaller bump, any input would be great....
I am willing to bet it is your tailgate. When I put on my tonneu cover, the rubber stop on the end of the tonneau rail quieted things down.
Another thought is that if you experience this as the wheels drop and not compression, I wonder if it is the spring rubber roller quickly hitting the leaf. The tailgate rubber stopper is pretty soft.
What kind of shape is your right rear shock in? On my other truck, my right rear was bad from the get go. The replacement had mounting tabs that weren't quite flat. When I picked up the truck it had a clunk. The shock mount was modified by the dealer to make it fit better and the sound went away.

spare is tight, i removed hitch to no avail, bed and tailgate seem to be tight, and yes it is happening when the rear is dropping not compressing, truck has 2k miles on it rancho shocks from factory (OR package)

Check the rear spring shackle. They have been known to break. If it breaks the spring will hit the bottom of the bed.

I have a 06 CC 4x4 with the exact same noise. Every time I hit a sharp bump with or without the brakes I get it. It sounds like something bouncing in the bed. At first I thought it was a bad shock but I have Greg's mini lift and it still does it. In fact Greg was stumped on our test drive. I did give the tailgate a look and it seems tight but I have not checked the bed mounts though that's a good suggestion. I'll have to do that in the morning.
ill be checking my bed mount bolts this weekend also.... and looking at the tailgate more closely..., i do also notice a smal high pitched squeak when driving flat and steady.... my buddy with the 04 says he has the same noise... is that leaf springs maybe?
I just picked up a used 05 KC and I have the same clunk / thud when the rear wheel drops after a speed bump or into a pothole or the sort. I've driven it a total of 40 miles, but don't think it is a normal clunk from the rear....
So keep te possible culprits coming....

Okay, more miles and it is driving me crazy that an 05 truck sounds like I have some larger loose rocks in my bed or loosley attached under the bed. Driving at about 25 mph down a semi-bumpy street makes it sound really bad and not normal for a truck of any brand.
The spare tire is firmly attached, the shackles look great and nothing is obvisouly loose. The tailgate may have a little play in it and I will remove it this weekend and drive around to compare, but if the tailgate makes this much noise with the small amount of play it has, I will be surprised.

i have come to the same conclusion with the tailgate being the noise, it does make some noise if i grab and shake it but doesnt seem to be as loud as driving it.... maybe it is a combo of tailgate and ball mount...
Okay, with the tailgate off, the noise goes down a lot! I would say 80% of the noise is gone. I think the bed acts as a specially design acoustic amplifier that amplifies small thuds into loud clunks that appear to come from beneath the truck.
There is still a single good clunk when going over a speedbump at 8-10 mph and it almost sounds like the rear wheels hopping off the ground and the suspension topping out. The shackles are okay and everything looks pretty good so maybe this is just a normal noise. I'd like to drive a brand new one back to back to know for sure though.
The left latch pin that is bolted to the bed has wear marks from the latch bouncing around, or perhaps a misalignment caused the wear marks which then caused the looseness. Either way, I think a new latch pin would be helpful and then I might work on the rubber bump stops for the tailgate to make them a little more effective. Maybe shim them out, put something in them to stiffen them up, or add to them. We'll see.

Is the squeak more of a high pitch hum or whine? I have a 2006 se cc with 11k miles. i had been hearing a high pitch whine from my rear end when i got up to cruising speed. my last oil change i mentioned it to the dealer and to my surprise they replaced the whole rear end! The mechanic said it was a common prob w/ the ring and pinion. as far as the bed rattle, i have the same prob and will be checking some of the suggestions on this forum.
