Fuel Gauge Only registers to 1/4 Tank??? Help?

Hey guys,
Well I've just found out that my truck has a unique problem...apparently, my fuel gauge doesn't like to tell me that I'm running out of fuel. It fills up fine, registers all the way down to 1/4 tank then just happens to stay there...and because of that, I've run out of gas twice now, no warning light no nothing, and when i shut off my truck the needle does go down past E showing that the gauge cluster itself seems to be fine....So, after taking it to my dealer they said that the most likely cause was that it was a loose ground wire their mechanic came across...That was fixed free of charge, but has had no effect and my gauge is still only going to 1/4. I've searched around a few forums and have found no other problem like mine, so I thought I'd finally write a thread and ask if any of you awesome members might have any idea whats going on? It seems to me that it's probably the sending unit. Others including myself have had defective sending units.

I agree, most likely the sending unit. I have seen issues in other places like wiring connectors, etc.. but misreading is always the sender.

Fuel sending unit needs to be replaced. I had the same problem last summer. Took it to the dealer, and they replaced the unit ... No problems since.
