Replacing Wheel Studs

Anyone here ever replace the wheel studs or have any diagrams on how to do it? (for the rear 4x2) I've done it to other cars but haven't had the time to look at the titan yet. 2 studs are stripped because some newbie kid from Firestone doesn't know how to use and impact and stripped 2 studs the last time they rotated the tires. Came back and told them but it was over 3 months ago so they don't warranty their work or claim responsibility. Oh well never going there again. Thats what I get for being lazy and not doing it myself like I always have.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

Hey Red,

I just found out I have the same problem! I was cleaning and painting my rotors today and couldn't take off the left rear wheel because one of the nuts and studs is stripped/crossthreaded. The dealer, Universal Nissan in Kissimmee, FL is the only place that has worked on the truck and removed the wheels. I'm so pissed that I took the truck in for the brake TBS and a leaky axel seal and 7months later find out I have another problem they created. I'm taking it in tomorrow and hope the dealer does the right thing and accepts responsibility for damaging my truck. This is exactly why I like to work on my vehicles myself.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

I would try popping a rotor off and laying it on a solid surface and tapping one out with a drift pin and a hammer. Do not have a Titan yet, waiting for the '08, but this works on most vehicles. Then push in a new stud and pull in on through with the lug nut until flush with the back.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

I think it involves rotating to a position where there is clearance, driving the broken stud out with a BFH, pulling the new stud into place with a lug nut.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

A little heads up while putting the new stud in, use a nut that is larger than the threads in between the rotor and the lug nut. You can sometimes still damage the lug nut even with this method but it is a lot less likely. It doesn't hurt to have a spare lug nut either just in case. Hope this helps.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

Just got done doing them. It took about 1hr to do. In case someone else ever needs to replace the rear studs here is what you need to do.

1. Remove caliper 2 bolts 10mm
2. Remove the rotor
3. Remove the E-Brake 2 clips on top/bottom and 2 springs
4. Hammer out the broken studs
5. Put the new ones in, tap them in place as much as you can. then put the rotor back on and use the lug nuts to tighten them into place
6. Then put back everything as you took them off and you should be done.

hope this helps.

I just replaced two because of a boneheaded mistake with my air wrench. As far as step 3 goes....If you pull down on the lower E-brake shoe it will move out of the way just far enough so that the stud will clear it and you will not have to remove the clips or springs. Once the stud is in just push the brake shoe back into place.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

If anyone needs spare studs or longer ones try http://www.ichibausa.com/

i have bought all my studs (regular & extended) for my Titan here. Not a bad idea to have a few spare ones laying around. If you remove your wheels alot or just get trigger happy with the air wrench as well.

Re: Replacing Wheel Studs

So let me get this right, you just take all the brake stuff off and hammer it out. That cool for the front and rear? I glad it's only that, a few of mine are getting bad. Has any one replaced them for bigger or longer ones. I was looking at another brand truck the other day at the tire shop and noticed they were a little bigger, longer and beefier.
