Noisy Relay?

I've got an intermitten sound coming from around the steering column that I believe is a relay clicking on/off. I notice it mostly when I first start the truck and sitting still, so I'm pretty sure it's not a vibration. Seems to vary with the steering wheel turning, but I haven't found any particular steering wheel position that makes it come and go.

Everything is working fine, but chattering relays worry me a little.

Any ideas?

Are you touching the brake pedal?

Re: Noisy Relay?

Do you have column shifter? Could be the release solenoid for the column shifter.

Re: Noisy Relay?

Touching the brake pedal will cause the shifter interlock to click.

I get this clicking sound too, especially during warming up. Ocassionally, I hear it at hwy speed without touching the brake pedal. It seems to go away with warmer weather. Turing the key all the way to start the car but don't let the car start, will make a loud click too. Does your car do this? This started to happen after picking up the car from the dealer where I left for some repair. I brought it back but dealer said all Titans do the same. My car is currently having the CES light on with code P0456, Evap Emission Control System leak and I'm not sure if it's related.

Re: Noisy Relay?

I've never noticed when just turning the key on, but I'll check it. I don't have the CES light on.

I just noticed a leaking rear axle last week, so it's going to the dealer in the morning. I'll ask them to check it while it's there.

Fortunately I bought the extended warranty, trucks got 63k on it.

Thanks, please let me know about the turning the key, just turn past the "on" into the start (springload area) slowly and don't start the car, see if hear the loud click. If you don't hear it, try it several times. My dealer said all Titans do the same but I don't remember mine did this before.

Re: Noisy Relay?

Not a problem. Thanks.

Mine is having the CES code P0456 for the 4th times. I don't want to bring to the dealer anymore and don't want to deal with lemon law either. I contacted Nissan and now just wait to see what they're gonna do.

0455 and 0456 EVAP control system, have them check your gas cap for leak.

After 2nd and 3rd time, I would assume they've done that. If I decide to bring it back, I'll ask them to check that.
Thanks

Re: Noisy Relay?

I started to notice a click sound this past week, more today than before. I have 14k miles on it. Not sure what it would be ? Thought maybe the key fob was banging but it coming from the left side of steering wheel

I have no idea...

Just currious, is this something you experienced before? They replaced everything within the Evap Control system, except the gas cap. May be I just bring it back for them to confirm the problem and have the gas cap changed and be done with it.

Re: Noisy Relay?

I too got the relay click on the passenger side when turning the key to ON positon, after the dealer did some warranty work. It didn't do it before I took it in. I had them come out to my truck and listen, they said it was just the relays and it was nothing to worry about. It has been doing it now for about 8 months, no problems, just annoying and not sure why it does it or if there is something I can do to stop it????
