odometer flashing

At night sometimes I notice the backlite part of the odometer flashing from bright to dim. Has anyone else had this and what was the fix? I only have 33k miles so I have some warranty left, I got the gold preferred to 60k.

Is it right at dusk? Do you use the "AUTO" headlight function? If yes to both of these, it's your headlight cycling back and forth from off to on. Whey they're on, your dash/radio lights dim.

No I don't have the auto headlights, and it is just the orange rectangle that the odometer is in. Nothing else flashes with it. It probably does it all the time, I am just able to notice it at night.

You can't relate it to anything else either?

No, I can adjust the brightness of the instrument lights and it seems to stop for a few minutes. Also the longer the truck is on the less it does it. If I drive for a few hours it stays steady.

Re: odometer flashing

i think it is your alternator. i know a guy who's 2001 tahoe would do the exact same thing except all his guages would go from bright to dim, bright to dim, etc. until you drove for a while and the battery got all charged back up. hope this helps...

It is just the backlight rectangle for the odometer. Everything else is fine.

Yeah it no big deal, just a little irritating when it is flashing at night. I am going to bring it in before I hit 36K miles. It is probably just the instrument cluster. Mainly just wondering if I am the only one that is having this.

I think you are the only one with this inquiry. Join the rare few that have a problem that nobody else had...lol. It happened to me with my serpentine belt that sounded like a bad timing chain tensioner.
