Help!! Fuel filling problem.

My 2005 SE tank has always whistled, and on a couple occasions it has splashed fuel back, but now suddenly I can only fill it at a rate of about 1 gallon/minute without fuel backing up the filler neck and splashing back out. Has anybody heard of this or does anybody have any ideas on what I could check before I take it to the dealership? It has about 60K on it.

Thanks!

Last night, while filling mine, the pump kept kicking off. That was the first time I ever had a problem with that, so I think it was pump specific. I'll know for sure on the next fillup from a different station. This was the first time I used this particular gas staion.

Re: Help!! Fuel filling problem.

I hoped it was only the pump the first couple times too. That is actually the same symptom and is exactly what would happen if I squeezed the handle fully like anybody normally would. For the last 5 fillups or so all I have been able to do is fill at the slowest rate the pump can possibly dispense fuel, and even then I have to pause every 20 secs. or so as I hear the fuel backing up the neck and then wait for it to drain down. Insanity.

The only time this happened to me, someone whom I apparently hadn't made the greatest impression on had stuffed paper down the filler hole. Grab a light and take a peek.

Re: Help!! Fuel filling problem.

I have a locking gas cap on mine. I always just let it blast in and never a whistling noise or kick off, so that's why I believe mine is pump specific. I can't imagine what could change in the filler pipe that would cause a problem all of a sudden.

Thanks Bend thats just great since I'm out of 3/36.

So that one-way valve sticks closed and the only fix is a new fuel tank eh? I wonder if this could be due to ethanol.

It seems strange that there have been no new posts in those threads for such a long time as prevalent as this problem seems to be.
