Angry ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

ok, heres the story so far.
2 months ago i had my oil/oil filter changed at Expressway...no problem.
today i took my Titan to the dealer for the harness recall, and while its there, i figured go ahead and change the oil!

then im informed that whomever changed my oil filter (Expressway), they did 2 things wrong. not only did they put in the WRONG filter, but they screwed it in so tight it stripped the bolt and it messed up the cooling assembly!
the dealer tried to see if they could salvage it, but NO!!!
now mind you, these past 2 months i had no problems or oil leaks
so needless to say i was informed the truck is dead!....

so i had to scramble for a ride back home, but on the way home i stopped by Expressway and splained the situation to the manager. of course, he said that what Nissan should have done was not remove the filter and have me go back to Expressway so they could verify if what they did was wrong! ...but of course, it was to late by then, the dealer already had removed the filter and could not replace it. the dealer now has to order a new cooling assy (whatever that is) and a new bolt...... and of course, including $200 for labor its gonna be about a total of $600!!!!! WTF!......

while i was at Expressway, the manager confirmed the proper filter was installed, an HP 4612 according to their records.
now i need to physically confirm that number with the filter (Thats in a plastic bag in the front seat of the Titan which is at the dealer!)...

so i called back the dealer with what Expressway told me...and of course they said bull::#$...... i asked to speak to the tech, but was told its a better idea to wait till monday and speak w the service manager and get everything hammered out as to exactly what happened. then ill have to consider my options vis-a-vis who the heck screwed up here!........

i just hope i dont get screwed with the bill here. i think it was Expressway that screwed up, but their manager had a good point in saying that Nissan, once they realized there was a problem with the filter,(before they removed it) should have had told me to take it back where i had it changed....
come monday ill have a better idea what to do. but this pisses me off big time.
No Titan till at least Tuesday, not to mention a ~$600 bill to pay.
will keep you posted....ack the HORROR stories!

Sorry to hear that, but that is why I do my on oil changes. I would never use one of those quick oil change places. If for some reason I couldn't do it myself I would have the dealer do it.

Yeah, DIY rules. Also, $600 sounds a little pricey to change the oil cooler. Probably buy the part from mossey or somebody and DIY that also.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

First off I think the only thing damage would be the "Stud", stripped thread not sure how the cooler woiuld get damage. Since that part is removal able from the cooler unit shouldn't be that much. It's a $20 part.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

the factory put my filter on tighter than ****....if a quick lube put it on tight enough to strip something....they must have used a wrench to put a new filter on....bad idea.

If you have the part numbers, you can look it up online, like www.nissanpartscheap.com to find out if you are getting overcharged for the parts.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

$236 for the cooler, $21.96 for the stud.
I think you could even do this your self.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

If they gave you the truck to bring to the oil change place, would you let them repair the truck? If they damaged the vehicle then it should be your choice of who repairs it and they get the invoice to pay. I'd prefer Nissan repairing their own truck.
Good luck with getting this sorted out.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

This is the reason why I don't go to those fast monkey lubes. I do all my installs and oil changes. If it requires someone messing with my truck or car, it will only be the dealership.

Re: ACK! oil filter problem HORROR story

thanks guys.
ill deff look into this more. im going to talk w the service manager (great guy from past experiences at Bruce Bennett Nissan in Wilton, CT) =..... so i'll have a better idea of exactly what happened, then ill decide whether to pusue it further against those oil monkeys.
no matter what, from now on my Titan goes to the dealer for everything!
will update as soon as i know. im suppposed to get the truck back Tuesday.
...... i miss my Titan....
he/she is all alone, battery disconnected, relegated to the back of the dealer next to a creek that will probs overflow with alll this rain thats happening!!

Clint, the truck cant be driven. id have to tow it to the oil monkeys and i dont want that further expense. plus its to late for that now.
it'll have its operation at Nissan hospital, not at some oil monkey clinic...hehehe.

thanks tho.
