Its very faint, but you can feel it.. It doesnt do it all the time, but it seems like it is happening more often.. Anybody experienced this or know what the he** im talking about????? Thanks

Re: Something in the steering

Have you checked all the steering linkage, and/or swaybar?

Re: Something in the steering

boy o boy let me tell you all about it. I had the exact same problem with my 06 titan. It started off as a slight tap or clicking knocking sound ya hard to explain. For me it started about 2-3 weeks after I bought it. So I took it in to the shop a bunch of times and the dealer keep saying they could not duplicate the problem. Finnaly after about 8 trips to the dealer a new steering rack, all new front suspention parts like tie rods, ball joints, ect., and new body mount bolts, and door adjustments they could not figure it out. So the dealer finnally offered to buy the truck back from me for a very fair price and put me in a 08 crewcab 4wd long bed se for the same payment as my 06 kingcab 4wd se. I had the truck for only 8 months and lost nothing, to tell you the truth I got the 08 a lil cheaper than the 06.

If you have a tow hitch on yours put some weight on the hitch and see if it gets worce mine did when towing. The longer I owned the truck the worce it got. Good luck with yours for me they never figured it out.

Please keep us update on this as I have been having the same issue for some time now. It is hard to duplicate but is becoming easier and easier to make it happen. Sometimes it happens when stopping but most times on take-off.

Let us know what happens.

Re: Something in the steering

mine got to the point where it was making noise over every bump in the road, and if I was towing my enclosed trailer full of quads it would even do it going down the interstate when I would slightly turn. Put some weight in the bed or hook a heavy trailer to it and see if it gets worce

Re: Something in the steering

I have the same clunking noise problem (low speeds over bumbs, turns) with my 08 Titan CrewMax SE. First at 1700, 3800, 5500, and now at 7564. They replaced the power steering rack 3 times already with the third ordered from a different supplier from another part of the country to see if that resolved it. Now, this is the 4th time the noise has reoccured and I filed a report with Consumer Affairs (CA)(which btw, moves at glacier speed). The noise is progressively getting worse and it is making me feel very unsafe. It has taken CA 2 weeks and they still have not gotten copies of the related paper work from the dealership service department. For crying out load, the space shuttle can go up and come back in less than 2 weeks so I'm not sure why it's taking them so long. I am in the process of escalating the issue up the chain as high as it takes to get someone responsive on the case. Next steps will be to weigh Nissan's proposed options and if unacceptable, proceed with arbitration or lawyer who specializes in the lemon law. If Nissan does not take this seriously and they continue to delay, I will consider going to the press and do everything in my power to negatively impact sales. At this point of frustration and safety concern, I just want a full refund/buy back including coverage for expenses such as extended warranty payments etc. I will keep those who are interested posted on how things evolve. Designers/engineers at Nissan corporate seem to have fallen asleep at the wheel (literally) since this appears to be the last model in this generation. Not good for future sales at all. No wonder Tundra is making a big splash.

Update 1/1/08: Hi, the latest is that Nissan Consumer Affairs decided not to do anything in advance of and to pre-empt arbitration. Additionally, at the time my truck had only been in for the 3rd time. So I brought the truck in for a 4th attempt and the service manager said there was nothing they could do because there was no technical resolution coming from the regional tech specialist. I also had a humming/rubbing sound coming from the wheels/steering when first starting the truck, but it tends to disappear after warming up and driving for a while (30+ minutes). Not sure if this is related to the power steering rack issue. They were not able to fix becuase they could not recreate the noise at the time. I am now working with the Dealership GM who indicated that he will try and work out a buy back/trade assist transaction with Consumer Affairs before I pursue arbitration. It may take a few weeks because of the holidays before I see any movement. If nothing comes through favorably, then I have to pursue BBB arbitration (autoline) by NC law. I am also in th process of seeking a lawyer who specializes in lemon law. I will update the threads with this info.

Update 3/07/08: The dealer came through and worked with corporate to offer me a trade assist. Basically, they gave me a brand new 2008.5 Titan 4X4 SE with pretty much the exact same options I had on my problem 2008 Titan 4X4 SE, just a different color. It was a seamless process. They worked the numbers so that nothing would change on my current loan payment or balance i.e. I was firm that I did not want to go into the red/negative or put any additional money towards this transaction. The new truck feels a bit tighter in the steering. HOWEVER, much to our disappointment, we are now experiencing a humming noise when first starting the vehicle an making turns, but after driving awhile, it goes away. We just hit 1000 miles and so far heard this humming noise 5 times usually when the truck sits for awhile or overnight and we first start off and make the first few turns. With the previous 2008 problem truck, we also heard the same humming sound in addition to the clunking noise in the steering rack. We are very disappointed that the same humming issue is now happening in our 2008.5 truck. I will be contacting the dealer first thing Monday morning. This amazes me how two new trucks have similar issues. How can this be?? I am furious and may be taking this one all the way through litigation and the media. I have had it with Nissan! Tundra will be my next truck.
