Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Hi folks, Reybeast here. I Live in Austin, Tx and I own an 06 LE KC 4x4. I have been round and round with Nissan, I have had 5 cases open with them. I have had the dealership swap tires and wheels from a truck on the lot, a total of 4 sets of tires and 2 sets of wheels have been on my truck to no avail. I have had the zone rep (they call him the DTS) come by and tell me my truck is normal too. I have gone to arbitration and lost because when we took my truck for a drive, we had 4 good sized men in the cab and the ride was entirely smooth, which tells me its a drive angle issue, but I digress. Just yesterday I finished with the Round Rock Nissan service manager, and he said "we are through". They dont want to work on it anymore. But, I highly recommend you put your truck on a dyno and film it, I did, and you can see the bed shaking. I would like to post this video somewhere for all to see, but I'm not sure where to put it. There is no question that there is a problem when you see and feel the truck bouncing on a dyno. Find one in your area and take your camcorder and film it. I had one dealership tell me that a dyno was not real world road conditions and was not valid. But, the other dealership says that what we are feeling are just natural road vibration. My friends, I think the only way we are going to be able to get Nissan to do anything is if we do a class action lawsuit. I'm no lawyer, but we need some good info in order to get this rolling. Adkl1, I highly highly recommend you take a voice recorder with you and have it on when the DTS talks to you, record everything he says, but try not to let him see that you have it, make it look like its a cell phone. I personally have an Olympus VN-2100PC that I have been using to record the tech working on my truck, and my service advisor, and I have both of them recorded admitting there is a problem. I plan to use this in a court case. Oh, and Adkl1, I have no doubt that the DTS is going to tell you that your truck rides normally, thats what I have read a few times over at edmunds, and on this site as well, and thats what he told me too. The problem is that many folks are calling this a hop, vibration, wobble, shimmy, and the posts are scattered under different names. If you are going for arbitration, read this posting I did on the edmunds forum, search for reybeast it will help and read post #701. We really need to go to court, who is with me?

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Just when you think it's done hitting the fan...another turd hits the blades! Here I'm thinking we're dealing with a 2008 problem, namely the PRO-4X, now it's going all the way back to 2006 models? WTF?!
So if I understand you right....you were able to reproduce this vibration on the dyno....which then tells me it's in the rear end and has nothing to do with the front...that's good to know. Again, has ANYONE changed out the driveshafts? I keep hearing wheels/tires wheels/tires....so can we assume it's not a wheel/tire thing?
And it can't be a design thing because some of us have no issues while others do. We need problem trucks narrowed down a bit.

How many are LWB
How many are SWB
How many are OFF ROAD/PRO-4X

These are the things we need to keep track of. If I've missed it somewhere I'm sorry.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

And how about model years. I will probably be picking up a truck in the next few weeks so it would be good to know if getting an 08.5 would save me having to risks dealing with this.

WOW!!! I am left speechless... As far as describing the vibration I gues I will have to tape it and post it on youtube; As soon as I get a chance.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

well i can tell you that i had two adults and two kids with maybe 400# of gear in my bed today and it was still doing it.. My zone rep knows about whats going on with my truck but nissan is sending out a Senior Mechanic too see what he can do.. There is 4 people at my dealer that have delt with my truck and all 4 of them have said there is a problem but they dont know how too fix it so i really dont know how this machanic that is being flown out on monday will be able to tell me there is not a problem.. And if this has been a on going problem why have they not come up with a fix?????????

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

guy on this site named Nor cal titan says his driveshaft was out of balance, and once it was balanced the problem went away. My sevice advisor Clint in Round Rock said they would try swapping the drive shaft from a truck on the lot, but I'm pretty sure they did not try it after all. I'm not taking it back to them since the service manager says they are through with dealing with my truck, so I'm going to try another dealership and see if they will balance the shaft here at Austin Drivetrain, or replace it. So what say you folks to a lawsuit?

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

oh, and that nor cal titan thread is under Titan Problems and Dealer service, then under the thread 25 mph vibration. if you look in the root of the forum, you can find more vibration problems under various titles. I would post the urls here, but since I have not posted the mandatory 15 posts, it wont let me add the links here.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I said it all along...if it's not the wheels/tires, look toward the driveshaft. It has to be something that's rotating!

It would take them 20 minutes to pull in another one off the lot and swap out the driveshafts. I can't believe that hasn't been done yet.

I had mine changed and it didnt change anything.. I still have a bad vibration from my motor. I think its the harmonic dampner or engine mounts.

Have you guys tried reving it up in park? When I do it, with it in Park I feel the same vibration as I do on the freeway.
