Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I just don't understand why nissan has not come up with a fix yet.. I'm sure they know there is a problem since I'm not the only one with it...

Kinda like the rear diffs, they don't know how to fix it. Just keep replacing them, and now they're on backorder. Must be alot of them going out that they can't keep the parts in stock. I still think they are rebuilding the old ones they take out and using them as replacements.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Yes< I have to agree... Nissan know about this. My service managers words exactly, "we know about it and all of them do it to a degree or another- even the frontiers do it-etc,etc..." He went on to state that they have tried "everything". I seem to think there is a bad part or a combination of bad parts creating my vibration. I noticed it bad today at 45mph going up a slight incline with the engine loaded at about 2000 rpm and the rear was vibrating- almost like an oval roation rather than a round one; not as bad a vibration as the 65-80 (frequency); but then at 50mph nothing till it apears again at 65mph. Really strange. Also noticed after going over a standard speed bump- the same feeling after the initial shock bump where the occilations would reverberate throught the bed in the same fashion as the other vibrations doing like 5 mph??? That almost felt like the shock valving was fighting the springs??? like a sort of bounce back to the shock. Maybe the dampening is off??? Like I said I am no engineer but I do understand mechanics fairly well and would have to say the shocks during the speed bump are the worst ever> every other vehicle I have been in would not "loose composure" for a better lack of desciption. The initial impact cycle would be like all the others but then continue for 4-5 occilations till it stopped almost too abruptly??? like a shutter? WTFO...
I am not imagining this do to the fact there are 4 speed bumps in a row and the same thing happened over and over. In my wifes suv it goes over the same bumps and makes a swish noise, feels the same initially then nothing. No other bounces/occilations/vibrations after the initial bump...
Thoughts??? Inputs??? Ideas???

Because they have no idea whats causing it yet. I didn't hear about this problem until your posts so I don't think it's happened to too many people. I knew it wasn't going to be the front end because on that video, the bed shook like crazy on the dyno and the front wasn't moving. I stand by my remedy..it's gonna be a bad driveshaft. They changed them and they're no longer the big fat aluminum ones found in earlier Titans.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

adkl1, what you are feeling when slowing down is happening. Just like when you are picking up speed, I am sure you have felt the vibration/oscillation, this is the same thing, but it happens much faster and easier due to the weight of the truck being pitched forward as you slow down. As for replacing the driveshaft, why would that solve the problem if they are getting their drive shafts from the same place. If the shaft is unbalanced, chances are that more of them will be unbalanced. Say they have a 10 percent rate of unbalanced shafts, thats a big number if they sell 70-100K trucks per year. The bottom line is this: if Nissan gets 5 trucks a year returned/repurchased for this issue, what happens to them? Do they get sent back to Nissan for root cause? I bet not, I bet that truck gets sold to the next poor sap, or wholesaled and sent to Mexico and Nissan doesnt have to mess with it. Thats what makes Toyota such a great company, when they have a problem, they want root cause. I know, I work for a major computer company, and Toyota is a client. When something goes wrong with one of their computers, they dont want it replaced, they want to know why it failed, most of the time, they want to know why it failed, and what will be done to make sure that future systems are not impacted, and what are we going to do about systems they currently own that could potentially have this problem. Thats why we will need to do a civil court case, we need to get Nissan to take some of these trucks back to some engineering group, have them root cause the issue so they can fix it in our trucks and future trucks. Until that happens, nothing will change. Period. Until you make it public or hit them in the pocket book, nothing will change. I'm hoping to hit another dyno this coming week and film it with a high def camera to get more detail and better clarity. I dont know about you folks, but I'm not giving up. They cant buy me off and they cant say we'll give you your money back. All that does for me is cause me to start paying for another vehicle for 5+ years, and Nissan doesnt solve the problem. Forgive me on my soapbox.

Oh, one last item, get them to have the driveshaft balanced, dont replace it.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

well reybeast here in AZ we have LEMON LAWS that protect people from things like this so if i hit a brick wall with nissan (witch i am pretty far away from that happening at this point) i will use those laws. You might want to see if your state has something set up if you already haven't. My rep is being very helpful as of right now so i will try the things that he is offering and go from there.... He has already told me that he will try and fix my truck and if it can't be fixed he has other options that he can exercise.I dont know what nissan does with their parts but im sure they have some kind of system set up for finding problems.. I do know that they have a big test course outside PHX, im sure that it is getting used for some kind of R & D. As far as my tires go just by looking at them i can tell that the dealer has filled them up with alot more than 38 psi so tomorrow i will let some air out and that should take care of what i was feeling on my way home from the dealer.. Im sorry but i really dont have the time or resources to start some kind of class action lawsuit not that i dont care..When i started this thread i was hoping that someone had this problem also and they where able to get it fixed but since thats not the case i am trying to keep the helpful info flowing as much as possible. i think everybody agree's with you that it would be nice if nissan would own up to problems like toyota.. I love my truck just like im sure you do but if i was you and nissan offered to buy my truck back or replace it i would take the offer and run with it. life is too short to stress or worry about a hunk of metal.. hahaha

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

So I'm having the same problem and I live in the phoenix area as well. I went to my dealer and they said that they feel the vibration but it's "normal." They claim that it is because my the bed is too light and the problem would be fixed if I just put a few sandbags in the bed of the truck over the wheel.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm tempted to do it just so I can drive down there and prove to them that it won't work. However, I did notice that my vibration got dampened when my friend rides in the passenger side (he weighs about 230 lbs)

Does any one else know if this is the "issue"?

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

If the vibration is normal then my truck must be abnormal. It is one of the smoothest running vehicles I have ever driven. Class ection suit? Reselling lemoned vehicles? Please, lets get real. Nissan is being given the chance to correct this problem. Let's see what happens before making unfounded claims.

Re-read my post. I didn't say nobody had this vibration. And watch that video again. If you can't see the bed shaking?.....then this thread won't help you.
