Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I agree with Hudson - there is a problem. And I believe all years have this problem. I have an 04 and it shakes like a son of gun.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

yup< I would have to agree... There is a problem! It just irks me that I got one that has "the problem" when others dont have it... So, that means the problem can be fixed... I want mine fixed... Doesn't get much simpler than that!!!

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

when i picked up my truck last week i felt like the vib was worse so i checked the air pressure yesterday morning and all the tires were at 32psi so i filled them up to 38psi. I ended up driving it on the freeway yesterday night and the vib felt better than it did the day before.Well this morning i filled the tires up to 44psi cold and again i drove on the freeway we were headed to ikea anyways the truck felt even better than it did with 38psi so i dont know what to think....Plus i put about 600 pounds in the bed and that didn't make any difference.. One thing i do have to say is that this truck feels and handles like a truck should with those sh*t a** BFG'S filled all they way up to 44psi....Makes me want to get some new shocks and E rated tires to stiffen this pig up ........

Likewise here. Except I have to make a decision quick.
My lease is up in a few weeks, and I need to get something to drive. I was waiting for a decent deal to come along, and it did on the Titan, 5k back. I'm glad it did, that's what made me test drive one.

I test drove an SE and of course no problems that I could detect, and I absolutely loved it. I had liked the Pro-4x, but they didn't have one for me to TD. Now that I'm reading all this I may end up getting the Limited. I don't plan on doing a whole lot of off road, so that may be my best bet anyway.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I had my 07's drive line changed about a week ago. It didnt need to be changed but the rep told me he had ordered the part so they did it anyways. Before I just had an engine vibration, now I have the vibration thats like the dyno vid. At all speeds I can tell that the new one is out of balance. I can feel it on take off and when the truck downshifts during breaking.

I have about seven dealer invoice for the work done on my truck and now I have to take it back again. I called a lawyer and they where interested, so we'll see what happens .

It's my understanding that it's the Pro-4x's in 2008, and older models with the off-road package, correct? I didn't see anything about the other trims, but maybe I was reading too fast.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

No not quite. I have been paying close attention to this thread as I really want to get into a Titan. I have seen several people refer to other trims and other years. Anyway from SE-LE and 04-08. Sure hope we get something about what is causing this soon.

My wife had the SAME problem on her '07 Quest. The thing had the same "death wobble" which we discovered with 250 miles on the odometer. It was the most bizzare thing. At 70 it was fine, hit 73mph it started, 75-78 it was unbearable, 80 mph it went away...smooth as silk. What made it bizarre was that the steering wheel didn't shake, but the seats did...violently.

We took it to the dealer, and they replaced 3 tires. They said they were out of spec or something to that effect. Took it home, and same thing happened. Not any better.

Took it back AGAIN(2nd time). They road force balanced the 4 tires again. Took it home, and was disappointed to find the problem still there. this time it wasn't as bad, but still...it was there. I was starting tthink I was crazy.

Finally, 1500 miles I couldn't take it anymore. I was thinking Florida Lemon Law (3 strikes you're out). I went back and asked to drive another vehicle with the same specs as mine. I also asked the Sales Manager to come along to prove I wasn't crazy. I Drove down a good stretch of highway between 70-80, and low and behold...NO SHAKE.

We then took our van, down the same stretch of highway, same speeds. Just as expected it shook like a bee-otch. He was amazed how bad it was.

We got back, and he told the service manager to swap tires from van to van. The thing has been perfect since.

Moral of the story....as someone mentioned in a previous post, road force balancing means diddly-squat. You could just have bad luck with those crap-year tires like we did. I bet it's in the tires........
Just curious here, I don't own a Titan yet, but has anyone tried dropping the truck into Neutral while wobbling? I once had a transmission issue in an old Explorer that caused it to shake like that.

This seems to be more pronounced in the Pro-4x's. If I remember correctly, the Pro-4x's have a slightly different drive train, right? Is it the rear or the tranny causing this issue?

What if the different OD of the new tires resolved the issue because they are smaller and cause the rear to spin faster, thus reaching the same rate of rotation at a lower speed?

I'm completely new to this truck, so I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just brainstorming here.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Bottom line is this - everyone has their theories - shocks, tires, transmissions, drive shaft - some nissan reps are acknowledging the problem and some are not. Nissan is not standing by their customers or their product. I bought a Nissan because I thought they made a quality product. In my opinion, this is no longer the case. I have had several people ask me about my truck and whether I would recommend buying one. I have to honestly tell them that no, I wouldn't. I explain to them that I have truck problems and no one from Nissan has done anything to help me out. I have made numerous calls to Nissan affairs and they opened up a case file that has gone nowhere but unanswered phone calls from the area rep. The dealer, the area rep, consumer affairs have all done nothing to help with this issue and I'm at the point now of either hiring a lawyer or trading the truck in on something else that is NOT a Nissan. Nissan should be reading these posts and realize that people who are happy with their product will return as repeat customers. I can honestly say that I HATE DRIVING MY TRUCK. Thanks Nissan for failing on many levels. Adkl1, I think you are extremely fortunate to have a rep willing to work with you on this because it seems like your dealings with Nissan is the exception rather that the norm. I hope that prospective titan owners are reading this and take this thread into consideration when choosing where to take their hard earned dollars.

Peoria Nissan and I bought it from Midway. I'll never purchase from Midway, ABC or Peoria again. Avondale is the best in the valley. We just bought a Rogue from there and we got it for about a hundred under invoice. Also they offer Nissan's extended warranty not some other company's.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

The PRO-4X is no different than any other Titan prior to 2008 with the OR package...drivetrain-wise I mean. The wheels and tires went from 285/17s to 275/18s and the wheel design changed, but that's it. Now somewhere along the line Nissan changed from a big fat aluminum driveshaft to a thinner steel (or some rustable metal) unit (which is my guess of the problem). But no, it's not a PRO-4X problem....my PRO is fine.
