I just discovered that my left rear shock was leaking oil on my 08 pro-x4. Do the service departments check the shocks for function? It could be that a bad run of shocks is just one problem among many. I do not have a vibration problem, but maybe the leak just started.
since if read this thread, i do trurly think almost all the 08 pro has that vibration on the front passenger side. i do feel the same problem as most of you guys experience. at fist i thought its just the road here in arkansas. the vibration is usually around 45-80 mph. could you guys describe to me the wobble feeling like? i don't know if it the vibration or wobble that i'm feeling. keep us update with the possible problems.
the wobble is a whole different thing than what the vib is... Watch your passenger seat if it starts shaking really bad and you also will feel the truck vibrate side to side then yes you have the same thing as us.. of course this is on a smooth hwy... My dealer didn't call me back today so i take that as the 4th grear thing didn't work.... And yes monkey these crap rancho's are not helping things....

yes the passenger seat vibrate. notice it today when a had a box of stuff sitting on the passenger seat and realize something rattling in the box. look and felt the passenger side, yesh inded the vibration. the side to side thing, really hasn't experience it yet. probably its there, but hasn't notice it yet. i guess i'll take my truck in friday and probably raise hell. thanks adkl1. i'll keep you guys posted.
pro said all trucks have this problem, I have to disagree. I owned a 2001 f150 supercrew, and a 2003 f150 4x4 supercrew, and neither truck had this problem. Heck, when I traded in the 2003 for the titan, it had 68K miles on it, and it was smooth as glass. at 48K I put some michelin LTX MS tires on it, and it didnt change a bit, still smooth as glass. I know I have complained about my Titan, and I would trade it or sell it in a heartbeat if I was not upside down by 10K dollars. Then I would be letting Nissan screw me again by letting them not fix the problem. Bleasedell, where in texas are you? Can you send me a private message if you are in or near Austin?
UPDATE: The dealer called and let me know that my truck was ready. I asked him when they closed for the day because it was already 10 'till 5pm. He said 6pm. I told him that I could not get there by 6pm so he said he would leave the keys with the sales counter and asked me to come by and take it for a drive. He then said that if I was not satisfied to leave the keys with the sales counter and keep my rental. Otherwise leave the rental keys with the sales counter. Well, as nice as that sounds (and is) I was immediately discouraged that the problem was resolved (otherwise he would not have made such an offer).
So I did what he said and took the truck for a test drive. Astonishingly, the vibration was better... but not completely gone. I swear it is not my imagination. I put on nearly 20 miles driving on surface streets as well as the interstate upwards of 80 MPH. It seems that 65 MPH is the speed where the vibration is the most noticable but it isn't as bad as it was before. I would estimate about 50% better.
Now, what did the dealer do exactly? Good question. I have not seen the paperwork nor did I ask specifics while on the phone with the service tech. What I can tell you is that there are different wheels and brand new tires (they did say they were going to replace the tires beforehand) on the truck. Also, believe it or not the brakes were a bit warped when I bought the truck (strange, eh?) so they turned the rotors. I checked them as carefully as I could and they did not take much at all off the rotors, but they run true now. As for any other changes, I will have to update you if there are any once I find out.
So, I plan to take the service tech on a test drive tomorrow where he is driving and I can sit in different locations and try to find the source of the vibration best I can (or he will). I will let you know how that goes as well.
Hello there, update from the dealer...
Nissan engineers are still working with the data taken from the test drive on their computer. Preliminary diagnosis is bad transmission and torque converter (ha, at 600 miles )
Please note that in my case, the problem is not a vibration, but a complete shaking of the entire truck back and forth mostly. It only happens on 4th gear, half throttle and low rpms (@1,000 rpms). It will start shaking as soon as the drive train loads up (starting going uphill for example).
The dealer lent me a titan with over 28,000 miles that runs better than mine until the truck is fixed. This is Regal Nissan in Roswell, GA, good service so far.
okay, so it not just the pro or the off road edition. so you saying dat this has been an on going problem. wonder y nissan hasn't fix this problem yet. at first this thing didn't bother me, now it has; cuz knowing this problem has been an ongoing problem and hasn't been corrected.
First, I need to clarify something as this thread has morphed (naturally) into a thread that encompasses what I (at least) believe to several problems. All I can speak to intelligently is my own problem. So let me redefine my problem as specifically as I can and if your vibration problem matches then please keep reading.
My problem: The passenger seat vibrates side to side at varying road speeds and varying intensity... with the worst seeming to be at highway speeds (~65mph). No noise, no vibration in the steering wheel, no noticible vibration in the driver's seat.
My configuration: '08 SE CC LWB, captains chairs, power driver seat, manual passenger seat, cloth.
My diagnosis:At least in my case I don't believe that the vibration issue is due to anything mechanical in the drivetrain or wheels/tires. It is the seat itself. If I am sitting in the seat (I am just over 200 lbs.) the seat does not vibrate, or at least not to a point where I notice it. However, when no one is in the seat you can visibly see the vibration in the seat.
I had the service engineer drive me around in my truck and I rode in the passenger seat and in the back seat. While the seat was vibrating I checked for a root cause. The seat belt hanging to the right of the seat was not vibrating, I could feel no vibration in the center console or on the floorboard, and the back seat had no vibration, even on the passenger side. It became clear to me that the vibration is solely limited to the passenger seat itself.
I inspected the design of the seat and while I will admit that I am an architectural engineer (turned software designer) and not a mechanical engineer or physicist, it is pretty clear to me that the seat vibrates side to side because it has no significant cross-bracing.
The dealer gave me a great line but in essence said that there is nothing they can do about the seat design. They cannot make any modification to the seat because of the weight sensor for the airbag system in the seat. He said that if there is ever a problem with the seat that Nissan will simply replace the seat and not have the dealer attempt any repairs. That said, the dealer told me that there is nothing he can do and suggested I call the Nissan Customer 800 number and open a case. He then told me that virtually every truck passenger seat has behaved this way (vibrated when no one is in it) since "the early 70's". I don't buy that at all but that is what he said.
So, I need to hear from you guys as to whether my "vibration" problem is the same as yours. If it is, then please reply and let me know. If it is something else then at least I cannot be of any help to you other than moral support and perhaps an educated opinionist.
