Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I took my truck back to the dealer to complain again about the rear end wobble. After a supposed test drive, they said they could not duplicate the problem.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I'm not sure what to do. My wobble still exists, but, it is an intermittent problem.
On a recent two hour drive up I-80 to Reno, the rear end would be velvety smooth and then a few seconds later, the rear end just started violently shaking.

On my two most recent visits to the dealer, it won't wobble on the test drive.

Of course since it won't wobble with the dealer out on the test drive, they say that there is nothing that they can do.

Any suggestions??

Yes, take your dealer on a longer test drive... OK, seriously, there has to be something that sets the vibration off. Is it hitting a pothole, a certain speed, or maybe a slight turn in the road? There has to be something... Unfortunately it is up to you to figure out what it is and go to the dealer with that info.

On a side note, my truck is fixed. In fact, it never "really" had the same problem that was originally described in this thread. When people here say "death wabble", they apparently mean it... meaning the vibration is so bad that they feel that they might loose control of the truck. Mine was nothing compared to that. It is hard to imagine the "death wabble" for me.

Nevertheless, I say all of this because if you don't have the "death wabble" and instead only have the "vibration" that I had, it is going to be very hard for you to pinpoint the exact circumstances that create the vibration and therefore getting the dealer to see it and appreciate it is going to be tough.

Good luck.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I have 08 4x4 SE CC SWB, 2200 miles, and am having the same problem with the 'wobble' at 45-65 mph. I am also having the same issue with the dealer telling me that there is nothing wrong and this is how the truck is supposed to ride...mine has been in the shop 2 times, with overnight stays, and swapped tires.. and the problem still exists.. I am scheduled to go in next week for the driveshaft shim experiment...

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I'm going to take the Titan to a dealer here in the county where I live on Monday. I stopped by there on Tuesday morning and actually got them to go out on a test ride with me and let them feel how smooth riding and how violently the rear end shakes all in a matter of a few minutes while driving on I-80.
I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I dropped off my truck this morning and by mid-afternoon, I heard back from them saying that one tire was out of balance which was discovered after road force balancing. The dealer said that they pulled my tires/wheels off and switched to another Titan on the lot and it produced the same rear end wobble. With new tires and wheels, they said my truck no longer wobbled.

When I picked up my truck, they said that it was as smooth as a baby's bottom. At the beginning of the 10 mile or so trek home, I thought, WOW, it is fixed! My praise was short lived though as the wobble came back.
I immediately called the dealer and told them that the wobble was still there.

Again, my wobble is intermittent, not all the time.

I'll wait for a call tomorrow to see how they want to proceed.

Keep checking this thread for my posts.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Not completely releated but has anyone seen the service bulletin NTB08-063 titled "RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS".

I've looked at my truck from the driver seat, passenger seat and from following it in another car.

The only shake or vibration I have is a little bit from the passenger seat if no one is sitting in it. (insert crossing fingers smiley)

I have that too on my '07. The dealer said the TSB only applied to earlier years. I say B.S. Mine wiggles when I'm going down the road starting at maybe 45 mph.

Here is an update on my situation.. so far i have had 3 sets of wheels and tires replaced, the front and rear drive shaft replaced, all 4 brake rotors resurfaced, the passenger seat TSB (that is basically just some tape and rubber bushings) and the rear end shim TSB installed.. and we still have a death wobble on our hands.. Nissan is sending tech out to take a test drive and discuss my options.. I might have to look into getting some yellow paint...

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I'm rolling around on '08 XE steel wheels and tires now. My dealer is ordering new BFGs for me and I get them installed on Friday. My truck is riding pretty smooth on these steel wheels and continental tires from an XE, with only a slight hint of a wobble. We'll see about the outcome once the new set of BFGs get mounted.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

The Titan is Fixed! It seems that a whole new set of new BFG tires was my solution. I've driven about 400 miles on them so far and haven't had the wobble anymore.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Wow! All those other parts replaced just to find that it was the tires. Glad you got it fixed!

Same here, 08 LE 4x4 and it has the death wobble but between 65 and 85 and intermittent. When it happens it feels like the whole thing is about to come a part. I've had two sets of tires put on it at the dealer and the drive shaft replaced and it's still there.

My 04 had the same problem until I level the truck by raising the front about 2 inches and lowering the rear about an inch. Also added an Armada front air dam and Hellwig Traction Springs. Nice ride now.
