Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Presently, Nissan has no clue as to why this is happeing or at least they are not telling us yet. Wheels, tires and driveshafts do not fix the issue.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

up date #3: surprise surprise dealer put 2 new tires on the truck and what do you know its still doing itttttttt.. They are gonna contact nissan tomorrow and see what they say and also get the rep involved. They wasted a hole day for two tires to come in.. Its kinda funny cuz i left my service adviser a message this morning and said the tires won't work...

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

rebalancing and rotation solved my wobble/vibration problems. Drives like a dream now!! I put on Pro Comp AT's and the shop must've either NOT balanced them or their machine was not calibrated. I went to a different shop to have it checked and they spen almost 1.5 hrs to balance all 4.

Good luck to the rest of you. Any chance the bfg's on the pro4x are coming out of the plant "out of round" - balancing wouldn't fix that issue, only new tires that are "true" would...

Cheers and happy holidays TitanTalkers!!!

They're running blind now. That makes as much sense as bad shocks. BTW, any pics of your new toy?

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

I didn't read all the in between pages, but I have the same vibration on my '08 SE CC. Usually happens when the speed is between 40-60. Was told to drive it for 1000mi or so, that the wheels/tires might not be sealed yet. Well, 1000mi is up and it's still vibrating. Took it to service yesterday and they said it was a bad tire, that the road force pressure exceeded limits.....around 34 or so. Goodyear is going to replace the tire, so I'll update on Thurs. whether it works or not.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

Not to add to the noise, but to try to help cut through it a bit. Maybe an observation or two from an old Journeyman might help:

I read through everything here and it looks to me like there is a buildup of circumstances that is going to drive everyone nuts until you get enough parts changed. Without taking anyone's side here, the tech may be right about the shocks. Some kinds of shocks (especially "off-road shocks) don't have a lot of 'snubbing action' when they're not being worked in and out a lot. Combine that with a bigger tire/wheel combination and you have a lot of rotating mass that's not being controlled properly. I'm not particularly concerned about the number of weights on any given driveshaft because there are nodes (frequencies) of vibration that each of them is supposed to control. I've bent a driveshaft before (due to my own stupidity and rush to install u-joints) and I can tell you, if it's bent, you know it right now. This was on my Datsun 620, which had a REALLY long driveshaft for its size, with a carrier bearing in the middle.

The other thing that occurs to me as a former wrench is that I haven't seen where anyone has actually spun-balanced the wheels ON THE TRUCK. I would bet that there is something just enough off balance, like a brake rotor for instance, to cause this problem. It's probably not being done anymore because there's a lot of danger in it.

The other thing that seems to be happening is that once this oscillation gets started, there's nothing to damp it so it just gets worse. Hence my comment above about the shocks. They get overwhelmed and can't control the hopping caused by something being out of balance.

Now, maybe one of you guys with the vibration can do the rest of us a favor: Can you get a buddy to follow you on the highway, and see where it's coming from? It should be REALLY obvious, like one wheel hopping up and down. Change lanes and check both sides, front and back. If you can isolate it to one corner, I bet you can get a little more help from the dealer in solving it. We had to do this once with a guy's Cadillac: turns out that the brake drum was way heavy on one side, and the customer's complaints drove us nuts until we found it. When we pulled the brakes down, there was a clean spot that showed a balance weight was missing off the drum. You can't rebalance it; you just replace the drum. And those brake drums had a LOT of heft to them on that car.

So maybe it's not a bunch of marginally balanced brake disks, but that would be one of the first places I'd look if I had a consistent vibration over many cars that wasn't curable by swapping tire/wheel combos.

Long, I know, but hope this helps everyone.

Re: 08 with death wobble & vib

All interesting theories indeed but it still appears that there is no definitive resolution.

Here's an excerpt from one of my previous posts:

I can feel the vibration in my seat & I can see the psngr seat wobble anywhere from 45-60.

Here's the latest:

I refuse to go back to the incompetent dealer that screwed up the balance & damaged my truck, that's another thread, so I visited 2 other tire shops:

> The first did only a static balance with clip on weights on the inside lip; better but still not like before & vibration was most noticeable when towing.

> The second shop, a national chain, spun the tires, removed all the weights & spun again performing a Dynamic balance with clip ons on the inner lip & stick ons on the inner hub; again better but still vibration.

I have read other complaints abt the stocker Goodyears but I know an unbalanced tire when I feel it. What puzzles me though is the front tires seem fine as I feel nothing in the steering wheel and the dealer that screwed it up to begin with did the balance???

Latest: I have since upgraded to 20x8.5 Granite Alloy wheels with BFG Gen II KDW 285/55's. They were purchased as a set from The Tire Rack. The ride is much better but I can still feel a little vibration in the seat; it only seems to be around 50 & seems to go away once the tires are heated up. I also noticed these wheels have a lot of weight on them. Having sd that I must tell you I'm a perfectionist and this is my first time owning a full size truck so maybe I'm expecting to much. After all it's not a Caddy .

What about owners with dropped Titan's, aftermarket shocks etc. that had the wobble? Any diff?

Since I had the white ltrs turned inside around 400 miles I can't say for sure if this was an issue from day one. However, I didn't notice it until the dealer rebalanced the tires; def stood out then.

Just for the record I owned a '93 Toyota truck (year before they dubbed it Tacoma) and I had the "Death Wobble" but only above 60. When I purchased the truck the owner had installed Ford Ranger wheels with oversize tires and I thought they just needed a good balance. Well had it done numerous times to no avail. I then purchased new wheels & tires from Discount Tire Direct and low & behold the same issue but only above 60. Visited several shops and got several opinions from "it's the tires" to "you need hub centric rings". Sold the truck so I never figured out exactly what the problem was.

Ok, I'll be the first then to swallow my pride and say......maybe the guy claiming to be a Nissan mechanic wasn't as far off as we thought. If they haven't already, or will allow you to switch to another brand, try changing the shocks (or make them do it)....at least the 2 rear units. Then see what happens.
