Your gauge can't show you that you have 0 miles left. It only registers the fuel level. Most titans fuel light comes on with about 5-6 gallons left. You still have fuel left, your fuel gauge is for reference. You should still use common sense, if you have 400 miles since your last fill up and your gauge is showing half a tank, you may want to fill up. If you know how many miles per gallon you are getting, you should be able to fiqure out how far you can go on 27 gallons. That will leave 1 gallon left.
I have the exact same problem, it sucks. Mine's an 08 also .
Do the 08's have a distance to empty on the fuel gauge? If so does the truck need to be told manually when the truck is filled up, or does it know by itself when it is filled up?
Don't have the guage on my Titan, but my wife's Altima does, although it's closer to accurate than what you are stating. When it says "dte 0" (flashing), there is usually a couple of gallons in there. It also has a much smaller tank, so it's probably the same by percentage. More than likely set up that way on purpose "to err on the side of safety".

Yes, the 08 have a distance to empty feature, when you filler up with fuel it recalculates the distance before going dry, which i have observed to be off by at least 55+ miles. Its a hassle, we have other vehicles with this feature and they are pretty much right on the money.
my wifes pathfinder has this option, and it is pretty accurate. I have this on my Titan and will start looking into it. right now I am using the temp feature, but will switch it and pay more attention... good looking out guys as I always use this feature on road trips and I will be doing that in less than a week

If it's like my Altima, you won't have to switch it, when it gets to less than a certain milage, it will switch automatic and start flashing. It does this with the temp as well (like I said, on my Altima), when it gets below 37, it switches on its own as well as the word "icy" appears on the left. Sometimes it annoying.

Sorry, I didn't know the 08's came with that feature. I have the scangaugeII, and when you fill up you have to tell the computer how many gallons it took. It gives you the amount that it thinks you used, and if you put in a different amount you adjust it. It is usually very accurate.

ya my 08 does the same thing. when the gauge goes to --- I fill up and I only get 28-29 gals in the tank. I dont see it as a problem I see it as a safety feature. But when I fill up it sure is nice to see I have a range of 620 miles before the next fill up.
I have an 08 titan xe 4wd. My gauge will say zero miles left and I go fill it up for only 22 to 23 gallons. Is anyone else having this problem
I have an '08 LE 4x4 crew cab and mine does the same thing. The odometer display will be replaced by the low fuel warning saying that I have ___ miles to empty, usually will come on at 30-some miles. I've always refueled before it gets too close to zero because I'd hate to run out of gas. Upon refueling, I've never put in more than 23 gallons, so we both have the same issue. I don't, however, view it as a problem. The problem I have is only getting 300-320 out of a tank. MPG is right around 14, which is to be expected. I had a Honda Ridgeline with a 3.5 V6 that got only 15-16. The increase in size, power, quietness and overall features in my Titan are worth 2 MPG.
I have been thinking about the distance to empty, and am I correct in thinking that the "DTE" number is based on the current displayed MPG and AVG speed? I would think that re-setting the MPG/speed screen for trip (ie., highway vs. city) would make a difference. Maybe I've been thinking too much about my truck, but it seems that I can't get her off my mind.

helomech thats pretty bright of you to figure out the mileage. My only point is that we pay $30,000 for a truck and probably would expect it to read out the correct information. I haven't run out of gas or would ever run out but for the money that we spend it should be right!!! Don't get me wrong I love the truck I test drove every truck out there and I think this is the best of them all. Just last friday I pulled out a 3500 ram 4x4 diesel out of the snow when we were skiing. Again I love the truck but if enough people complain about the problem maybe we can get a recall that would help us all. Thanks
