Re: Front Axle Failer Thread

In July, a dealer in Bellevue, NE replaced my front diff under warranty. I have a 6" lift, so if you are under warrenty it shouldn't even be an issue (please note the "No Fear" Titan has a 6" lift. Last month I smoked it again and decided I didn't want to deal with the dealership's crap anymore, so I pick one up at the junk yard for $591 (after taxes) and installed it in about 3 hours by myself. The front diff in these trucks are garbage!

So does anyone know if the so called replacement is any better or if an aftermarket one is available somewhere?

How hard is it to replace on your own? What tools are needed out of the ordinary?

I have a bracket lift, so it might be easier than a none lifted truck...not sure. All you have to do is unbolt the upper cv joints from the carrier (12 bolts, easier to do with the front tires off the ground), then the 3 bolts holding the carrier in, and finally the drive shaft (might want to check the u-joints while you are at it, they should not have any play in them). Normal hand tools and a couple of jacks will get the job done. I used an impact to remove the CV bolts (I don't recommend an impact to put them back it, I had one of them snap off on me).

To my knowledge, Nissan has not redesigned the front diff, just the rear. No aftermarket either. SAS is the only option when upgrading.

Ive tried to read through here and I didn't see any 08's. Is there anyone out there that has an 08 with a lift ( what kind) that has experienced this problem..

Unhappy Re: Front Axle Failer Thread

Just had my front diff replaced. It was covered under warranty. Service guy said it was somewhat common. Concerned about the longevity of this truck now. I don't want to have to replace the front diff every 3 or 4 years.

Would it be too much to ask to take a few pictures of the process? I just want to get an idea of what I'd take before deciding whether to suck it up and take it to the dealer.

Re: Front Axle Failer Thread

too late! My mechanic had it fixed in a couple hours.
Put in a new clip and serviced the diff plus a oil change.

Total cost $125

The clip is $4 and it needed 6 ish quarts of diff fluid he said.

Keep in mind the clip is only a band aid. Nissan redesigned the whole front differential, so it will happen again. It's just a matter of when.

noted.

If it happens again this yr, then the truck will be forsale. A new diff and labor is simply not worth it on a fast depreciating truck that is JUST out of warranty.

Re: Front Axle Failer Thread

I think I'll bandaid mine too. 60.1k miles is not very fair of a time for a failure that costs this much. But hey its for sale now, anyone interested?
