I have a 06 Titan with about 10,000m and I keep hearing a noise coming from the rear-end every time I start from a dead stop. It’s a metal sound and sounds like to pieces of metal hitting together.
Anyone have any idea?

Rear that doesn’t sound good, its under warranty but it’s a pain to take it back. I was thinking maybe the breaks, I saw somewhere that the Titans had break problems but don’t know what they were talking about.
The slides don't sound like metal rubbing together. Get that thing to a dealer before it leaves you stranded somewhere. These diffs for 04 to 07 are known to have problems. Get it replaced.

Thats my vote, I had the same happen to me before. I heard the remedy for that is PRG traction bars or you can first check your U-bolts nuts.

I would consider just checking the utilitrack rubber guards and see if they are hitting against the tailgate. It is easy to check and may save you a lot of time rather then going to dealer have them check everything out and not find a thing wrong. If that is not it then take it in. Happened to me and I thought the rear end was falling off.

I know it’s not the utilitrack rubber guards hitting against the tailgate. Sounds like it a trip to the dealer, I just called and made a appointment for Wednesday, They also think it’s the diff.
well, crawl under there, preferrebly while it's off... and in park... w/ brakes on too just in case, then look around... grab your drive shaft and turn it by hand, should only have a slight amount of play to it, not very much... then of course, check the tranny/transfer mount... that was the source of all my rear end crunch/clunk problems... went through two in 20k miles before I decided to get PRG Traction bars to solve any future ripped tranny mounts...

And the winner is: Transfer case, I just got a call from the dealer and they said the transfer case is all messed up inside.
They will have a new one next week and say that I can drive it until it’s in. I guess all messed up inside is not that bad?
I'm glad you fixed your problem. I have similar problem and I'd say a traction arm bushing on the rear end may is the problem. I also change the u-joints and motor mounts for my own safety, I hate those clunking sound when accelerating. Thanks also for the answers. It really gives me such a nice idea.
