Re: EVAP Vent Control S/V

Look at this TSB. Go to step three, do you see the little round canister( filter)
The bottom hose coming out of the canister goes to the evap solonoid valve. Disconnect the hose coming from the filter then turn the valve about a 1/4 turn then pull it out. There is an o-ring sealing the valve to the evap box, make sure that comes out with the valve. If the new valve does't come with the o-ring get that too. It should be replaced with the valve.http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/atta...4&d=1189618447
You don't say what year your truck is, If it doesn't have the filter you should install that too. Just perform the whole TSB.

Re: EVAP Vent Control S/V

Hi I have a 2005 Titan LE. I brought it to the dealer and they ran diagnostics and come to find out my Evap/vent control valve (the word charcoal was thrown in there) needs to be replaced for est $410.00. The dealer stated they went thru a few "goodwill requests" with Nissan to replace it for free since I'm out of the 3yr/36k warranty. I have 22k miles. That process took about a month to get a response. Did they really try and contact Nissan? Anyone else familiar with this process?

You should still be under warranty at 22K miles

Sounds like his bumper to bumper warranty is up due to years not mileage. He must have bought it early 05. Correct me if I'm wrong but some states cover warranty on emissions for a longer duration, And that would be an emissions issue. I think it says it in the warranty manual. When I had my evap solonoid valve changed I had approx. 55,000 miles, It was covered under the extended warranty.

I would bring that TSB to the dealer and remind them in a nice way that there is an ongoing problem with these valves that don't have the filter attached to them. Technically they still can charge you for the TSB work, The TSB's are just info for the mechanics to help them troubleshoot common problems. It's possible they don't know about this TSB. My dealer didn't know till I showed them the copy I got from BBfanz.

Check engine light, Also when putting gas in, it doesn't vent properly so the pump keeps shutting off thinking it is full. Check the Tsb it will tell you the codes that are thrown when the valve is not working properly.

Re: EVAP Vent Control S/V

The EVAP canister vent control valve is located on the EVAP canister and is used to seal the canister vent.

This solenoid valve responds to signals from the ECM. When the ECM sends an ON signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized. A plunger will then move to seal the canister vent. The ability to seal the vent is necessary for the on board diagnosis of other evaporative emission control system components.

This solenoid valve is used only for diagnosis, and usually remains opened.

When the vent is closed, under normal purge conditions, the evaporative emission control system is depressurized and allows "EVAP Control System" diagnosis.
