Loose parking brake

When I park I set the brake, shift to P then remove my foot from the brake pedal. The truck rocks forward a bit. Is this normal? Does it need to be adjusted?

When you guys set your brake do you have to squish it all the way to the floor?

Re: Loose parking brake

Put it in gear and set the brake, if it doesn't move it is probably fine. If you want to adjust it it is very easy. Look above the pedal, up under the dash. You will see a nut, I think 10mm just tighten that nut until it is like you want it.

Re: Loose parking brake

Use a 10mm deep socket and ratchet to adjust the nut on the park brake. It's located just above the pedal. Adjust it while it is released. Tighten it a little then check it. After each time start the truck put it in reverse and set the brake. Let off of the brake and if the truck moves then you need to adjust it more. You should only have to push the park brake pedal half way down for it to hold.

Re: Loose parking brake

speaking of parking break, I have no pads left on mine. I went get my axel seals replaced and they told me I had no pads left, That may explain why when I pressed my parking break it didnt slow my truck down lol

It could just be out of adjustment. The only way to check the pads on the parking brake is to take the tire, and the rotors off. The pads for the parking brake are inside of the rotor. They are a drum break style.

when I had my truck in the shop they said when they went to take off the axel seals they saw them and told me they had no pads left.
They said an est of 350$ little more/little less

I don't know what the pads cost, but I bet you could do it yourself for under 100. Why didn't they change the pads while they had them off, oh wait I know the answer so they could charge you labor to take them back off.
