tailgate came off the hinge
Has anyone had their tail gate come off the hinge? I was helping someone move and as he was closing the tailgate it slipped out of place. There was a plastic piece on the driver side hinge that i had to rip out of place to make it go back in. Is this piece important? What should i do? I dont know if this makes a difference but i have a 08.5 SE KC short bed.

this happened to me while we were camping about a month ago....was loading up and got part of one of our chairs caught in between the end of the bed and the tailgate, and when i went to close the tailgate, it popped right off the hinge on the driver's side....i didn't have to rip anything off though, just moved the chair out of the way and lifted the tailgate back over the hinge, so far i've had no other problems with it....

Well it happen to be but I was going over some railroad tracks and I had my tailgate down. I chipped a little spot on my tailgate after that little incident.

Mine has popped of on me once when I was closing it. luckily I caught it and no damage was done. After that close call I just took a hose clamp and put it around the one side with the slot. Haven't had a problem since.

they're def made with a quick release but one thing I would worry about more than it just coming off, people around here have had their tailgates stolen, not only on titans but the fords are like this as well, so maybe wanna lock the tailgate a little more often?

Mine came off yesterday. I just finished unloading a bedfull of pea gravel so the bumper was covered with gravel, when it fell it scratched the piss out of the bottom of the tailgate. Hell of a way to get my first scratch! I guess I can really call it a work truck now.
