typically on the rears i've serviced it was the thrust washers breaking down allowing the spider gear to slip out of place.
then a driver must have dumped his clutch once and broke where the pinion bearing mounted to the housing... that ended up breaking the ring and pinion.
Typically speaking you did not refer to a specific rear end in which the thrust washers were breaking down, and was that a Nissan Titan Dana rear end or just rear ends in general, and dumping a clutch in a Titan would be an impossible feat to start with. There are no production Titans with a standard transmission ever made. So to compare another rear end to the Titan Dana is not correct unless you have inspected one. Nissan does not sell parts for one so I fail to see how you could have gotten parts, Dana will not sell them since it is a Nissan spec'd rear and is proprietary. Therefore I can only conclude with no third party support or manufacturers support other than complete rear ends that your comment of replacements earlier was not on a Nissan Titan rear end. So then that possible explanation is not on this rear end and is pure speculation without using a Dana from a Titan for analysis.

Re: spider gears
I kept the old rear-end when we put the TrueTrac in. Both spider gears are missing teeth. My tec. looked at the spiders and said the heat treatment was gone/absent and that probably caused the failure.
I'll take some pics. of the spiders, ring and pinion.

No, I don't have any solid info. But I recall a few people got the axle replaced when slightly past Warranty. Say 65-70K.
I put a TrueTrac in mine around 20k, but both axle seals leaked around 55K, and when the second seal was being replaced, the dealer said the fluid was dirty. So, they gave me an 08 Axle Assembly for fear of damage inside the Diff. Easy Warranty work for them too, I think. Something to do. Nice to have new, if better, but I lost my TT. That was disappointing to say the least. I wish they had been willing to investigate the wear, and just change the fluid, but that isn't what dealers are all about. My new Axle has a 12mo./12K Warranty, so good to about 67K miles. I just passed 60K yesterday.
