I've been offered a price on a Titan SE 4x4 Crew Cab with the following packages: Off-Road w/locking diff., Utility Bed, Big Tow, Popular w/Captain Chairs. Dealer says they will sell it to me for $30,980 + TTL and they will throw in an extended warranty. Their out-the-door (OTD) price is $32,370. Does this deal look reasonable compared to what others are seeing around the country? They've already turned down an earlier OTD offer I made on the truck (which also included an extended warranty).
It's obvious (at least around here) that these trucks aren't moving as well as expected. The Nissan lots are full of Titans, with more arriving daily. Based on some of the prices I've seen others get, this offer doesn't look all that bad.

The dealer has now come back and said that Nissan is tossing some incentive money their way, which has allowed them to reduce the OTD price from $32,370 to $31,750 (a $620 reduction). Times are getting right to buy an '04 Titan these days.

Just out of curiosity, what is the build date of that Titan?

Cal, the short answer is...I don't know because I didn't ask.
I know what you're thinking, that the truck I'm looking at was built months ago, and they are anxious to get rid of it. One thing I do know is that the salesman told me that he could tell that they've only had the truck for a couple months based on the stock number. The only reason I asked him that was because I did a "finger nail" test of the spray-in bed liner, and I was a bit concerned as to how soft it was with the sun shinning down on it (I could make an impression with my nail in the liner, but it returned to normal when I stopped pressing). I had read on here that some of the bedliner problems may have been attributed to early production models.
Anyway, this is the only truck that has the features I want within a 200-mile radius of here. The price is reasonable based on other offers I've received, plus I can get 2% financing with it. I've got to make a decision soon or risk losing it.

Build date question that was asked is answered sort of in this post...If it has the 'locking Diff' it was built after 7 april 04.
I found this too. You can go to carsdirect.com and get a low price, for the Titan it's below invoice. Just take it into the dealer and tell them to beat it, or you'll walk out.
This is my first truck as I have always been into the sport car scene (mustang, camaro, corvette, etc).
I wasn't hell-bent on a Titan. In New Orleans East, there is a string of dealerships - Nissan, Ford, Dodge.
I was actually considering a Silverado as I own a Corvette and would get $4k loyalty rebate + invoice price.
I was very upfront with the salesman and told him I wasn't sure what truck I was going to buy. I told him he was my first stop and I was going to test drive everything (dodge, ford, etc) and then make a decision. I also told him I wanted to pay invoice only as the truck market is very competitive and if I didn't get that, I didn't think I was going to buy a Titan.
He was very cool, agreed, and I test drove the owner's truck - a fully loaded LE.
I told him I liked it a lot and would come back to him if I bought a Titan even though there was a Nissan dealership 10 minutes from my house (he was 30 min away).
After driving the ford and dodge, I called him 2 hrs later and told him I would be back on Sat (it was Friday night) to work something out.
I had some trouble with trade ins and some broken promises but the owner (Mr. Dennis Lamarque) of Lamarque Nissan stepped in and did more by right by me.
My truck stickered for $39,850:
2004 Nissan Titan Crew Cab LE
(every option in the world other then 4x4) - nav, rear dvd, LE, sonar, etc.)
I ended up paying 33600 which was 500 under true invoice with no other fees - no destination, prep, etc.
I then got my 1.9% financing from Nissan and with trade - it worked out to right under 30k.
So 39,800 to 33,600 works out to $6200 discount.
Mr. Lamarque was incredible to me and has earned a customer for life. I was originally going to either order a car or use the locate feature as they didn't have the exact truck I was looking for (Smoke or Deep Blue LE). I compromised with him and bought the most loaded truck on his lot (Crew Cab LE - white) and in return - he made the best possible price he could.
I highly recommend dealing with and the salesperson I had (Joey) rather then anyone else there.
A deal (price) was important to me so the time I spent negotiating was well worth it in my opinion.
Lamarque Nissan - New Orleans East - Mr. Dennis Lamarque - Great guy to deal with. Feel free to email or PM me if you're looking for a truck. I'd be glad to let them know and try to set something up for anyone.
I'm looking at an SE 4x4 CC. Has popular w/bench and utility bed (no BT, no OR). MSRP is 32,460...dealer will sell it for $28,300 (inc. rebate) which would be about $1,139 below invoice . Is anyone doing better pricewise on a similarly equipped truck? The price is $4160 off the sticker. I think they could go lower, but I'm not sure how much lower to try to push them.....any thoughts?
I don't know why its different. When I get to my folk's house this weekend, I'll take a look at the original sticker. I did get mud flaps, deflector, and floor mats but I don't think that accounts for the difference..
sigma391,
Its not a bad deal but if you might be able to get a couple hundred more. If not, I would push to have no doc fee, dealer fee, prep fee, etc.

When I bought my Tacoma, I paid $50 over so-called "invoice" price. This is a crock, because I know that the sales people at Toyota of Orange (where I bought it) get $75 commission for any vehicle sold. If I paid $50 over the dealer's cost, they lost money -- which they surely would not have done.
Through a reliable source within Toyota Corporate, I found that Toyota of Orange, along with any decent Toyota dealer is paying roughly $8000 below the supposed "invoice" price when all is said and done. So I got a great deal on an awsome truck, and Toyota of Orange made roughly $7925 on me. Worked out great for both of us.
The point of this is that the price that someone "pays" for something isn't neccessarily the monetary figure changing hands.
As another example, I worked at a company that sold computer components. We were owned by a wholesaler. The invoices and packing slips we got with each daily shipment had the normal "wholesale" price on them. Inventory was calculated with these. Margins were set with these. However, since we were owned by the parent wholesaler, we actually only paid the COST of the item -- not wholesale. I equate this similar to any large car dealer with good ties to corporate.

I bought a Titan two weeks ago, through www.carsdirect.com . I can say that after that experience, I strongly believe that car dealerships with commissioned salesmen have outlived their usefullness for those of us who have internet access. We still need warranty repair shops and test drives, but other than that, the dealer isn't needed.
My local Nissan dealer couldn't touch the price that carsdirect gave me. Not only were they lacking the right feature combination, but they wouldn't look off of the lot for one that fit. I drove home and filled out the online form.
The next morning (Monday), I got a phone call. The exact Titan I wanted wasn't available, but Melissa worked with me for about 15 minutes until we found one that was suitable. I could drive (45 mi.) and pick up the car any time that day, or have it delivered for no extra cost a couple days later. My friend who recommended carsdirect opted for delivery. I was impatient, so I went and got it.
So, instead of spending time discussing price, I spent 15 minutes filling out a form, and 15 minutes discussing colors and features. Buying a car is now almost as easy as ordering a CD online.
As an FYI, I opted to drive and pick up the pickup. The lady who helped fill out the paperwork had done this several times already that day, so it was very easy. She also works with their own online system. She did confess, after prying, that had we clicked the option to get a dealer pricing instead of the fixed carsdirect price that we would have paid less. We were already below the "invoice" price, and I was pleased enough with the vehicle that I didn't want to break my commitment to buy the Titan at the price I was there for.

The size of the discount a dealer receives from the manufacturer is in direct proportionment to how many vehicles are sold by the dealer. Most vehicles are sold on consignment from the manufacturer for the first 90 days. If the vehicle is sold during that time, the dealership receives a 3% commission and does not have to pay taxes on the vehicle. The dealerships, also, receive a volume discount fr om the manufacturer, based on whether they make their monthly projections. The more volume the more discount. The longer the vehicle is on the lot, the less the dealership receives. Plus, over a certain period of time, the dealerships are taxed on the amount of inventory by the local governments.
This is why large dealerships can swing better deals.
p.s. Due to these discounts, the dealer invoice amount is a just a number what dealership would have to pay the manufacturer if the vehicle was never sold.

I went on the internet and priced out my XE 4X4. Then I submitted it out for bids to Nissan dealers in about a 35 mile radius. Three dealers had approximately the same price and then one was $1,900.00 less. I got my XE 4X4 for $300.00 below invoice plus rebate and interest rate less than the bank or my credit union.
I think I did alright. The main thing I stressed to my salesman was customer service! Follow up on the sale was great. so far so good.
There have been a couple of loss leader ads for Titan's at $8000 off msrp.
If your holding out for a titan watch those ads!
Not a likely scenerio around here....
I took the plunge last week and brought home my Titan from a Nissan dealership in Salisbury, NC. I was able to negotiate slightly more than $4K off sticker with 2% financing. I accepted this price after several weeks of getting price quotes from all the Nissan dealers in this area, including the larger ones in Charlotte, NC. I did all my negotiating on-line, and found it to be a much more enjoyable process than sitting down in a dealership and haggling over price.
Now if I can just find someone to buy my '95 Silverado......
