I am down to 2 dealers that won't budge below invoice price of $31,344 on a Titan SE Crew Cab 4x4 w/ off-road, big tow and power captains. The other 5 I contacted averaged about $500 above invoice and wouldn't budge either.

Thoughts? Suggestions??

Invoice Price

With OVER 1 MILLION new vehicles sitting on dealers lots, which is way above average (to say the least) I would NOT in any way/shape/form buy OVER invoice. You're just "screwing" yourself allowing this to happen. Buy another make/model instead. Use your common sense NOT your impulse to make your decisions for you. The automakers know all too well that impulse buyers are what made the auto industry. Shiny show room floors, use of mirrors, bright colors, etc., etc.. NOT ME. I really like the Titan but will NOT allow myself to be "conned." Like I said at the start here, the lots are full, so the laws of supply/demand are on our side. So USE it to your advantage. The 05's are already here, so dealers MUST "deal."

joekrz,
'05 Titans are not on any lots around here in So Cal and Nissan will likely send out a news clipping when they release the first one from the Canton assembly line. You don't sound like an impulse buyer to me since it appears you've shopped for deals at a number of places. Are those invoice price offers before or after applying the current $1500 rebate. If those offers are before applying the rebate, then they sound pretty good to me. If you want to battle for an even lower price then good luck to you. There are lots of good trucks out there, but the Titan has made me very happy by performing well and more than holding its own when I use it for work. If you get a Titan, make sure you check out the FAQ sticky (Item #6) about things to check before taking delivery. I hope you end up with a good deal on a truck that will fit your needs and make you happy.

Hmmm.. Some quick thoughts..

Resell:
The big discounts to hurt resell.. However! All the full size
trucks now that I can think of have some pretty big
incentives.. Dodge $10k off Msrp, Ford 6k off? I think the
one for Toyota is pretty big too. So take it with a grain
of salt. I think over the long term 4 years, Nissan and Toyota
will fair better than the percieved domestics. I think most likely
Chevy will be hurt the most. Toyota while usually wonderful
will take a hit since it will be doing a model update.

Dealers That Won't Deal:
If you check on Nissan's website, you can check VIN#s, and
general inventory at dealers near you.. Also just driving by.
These guys have tons of trucks on the lots. Unless they are
really planning on pushing 05' to really late in the year.. At
some point, they have to try and move the large inventory.

Not all Titans are Equal
Another thing to think about, is certain colors, configurations are
going to sell much easier than others. The dealer is not going to
want to give away a popular configuration for $500, when he is
likely to have someone pay a premium for the truck. I think the
majority of buyers simply are not savvy enough to know things
such as dealer hold back, floor space, etc. So if he is not dealing
for that particular rare truck you want. Consider changing something
Go for Canteen Green, or ask the dealer, if there is any similar configured
trucks he could make a better deal on.

It's a Full Month
Less pressure on the sales team at the beginning of the month. Your
best deals are usually going to be made in the last week of the month.

Pick Who You Deal With
I'd recommend to go ahead and cut out the regular salesman. Call in
and ask for the Internet sales person, they usually know you are
a bit more of a competive shopper. Try to stay out of the dealership
until they have a price you like, and a vehicle you want. If you
get into a dealership, many of them will simply try to sap up your time.

Fax Attack
Get the fax numbers of dealers, find a good deal on here, or your best
deal, try to get some bites on it. Again, try to stay out of the dealerships,
the ball is in your court via phone/fax. Also be nice, polite.. Don't be a jerk.

Some other quick thoughts
Try to negotiate the out the door price (including dealer fees, minus taxes) Before you get to your tradein. Often they will lower the value of your trade-in to lower the price of your truck.. It's false economy..
I.e.
$31,000 Titan... and $5000 trade in (What some dealers would give you)
another dealer might give you
$30,500 Titan but $4200 for your trade in.. 2nd dealer is costing you more money.

My original post about buying was #283 a page back....now for the rest of the story.

I pick up my new Titan tommorrow night. What I bought should show in my sig. Paid below invoice and got 1K more on my trade than I thought it was worth in real dollars . I'm happy. I stopped by the first Nissan dealer and showed them my sales contract explaining this is the second time i have walked out on them to go buy at their competition. I'll drive 25 miles to save a few grand any day.

Invoice was dated 8/31/04....how do I actually find out born on date? Thanks

Sticker?

I don't know what you mean by your sig. but what model/color did you buy? And what was the sticker? MUCH THANKS. I'm "shopping" too, and the more input I can get the better my chances.

Check what you can get for a Kelly Blue Book private party sale and have the delaer give you close to that. You should be able to take $5000-$6000 off of sticker with close to private party sale price for your trade in. If not walk out. If they want to sell them they will call you.

Sig is the info under my post.....look down a few line now and you'll see what I bought. I had a trade so it's hard to give you selling prices but all the online trade values were about $1000 less than I got on paper. This was off a selling price of invoice less $100.

window sticker was 4X4 se crew 29,900
pop pkg 1300
big tow 650
mats 110
bed ext 240
_____________
32,850

they had a dealer protection package at $1295 pin stripe, wax, bull crap.....etc they totally dropped this off. Invoice they showed me was for $29,619 and I paid that less $100 and got what I feel was $1000 extra on my trade. They could have gotten me to sign with their 1st trade offer but I said 500 more on the trade and they took it....go figure. Also got $1500 rebate so really 1600 under invoice.

love the truck so far but the stereo does do the stereo fade thing, seems to fade the highs in and out. I think this is common and they can fix it. They even had all four tires at exactly 35lbs...i checked. now to check differential fluid levels.....and get a bedliner of some kind...and running boards and......

I did the fax attack thing... well e-mail attack instead and finally found a dealer that is $488 under invoice.

Titan Crew Cab SE 4x4
SE Popular With Power Captain Chairs
Off-Road Package
Big Tow Package
Splash Guards
Floor Mats
Bedliner

Invoice is $30,488. I offered $30,000 and they accepted. Now factor in the rebate and the $2500 they are willing to give me on my truck and we are down to $26,000 + TTL Out the Door.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Atlanta is a great place to buy any type of vehicle.. esp. trucks.. esp. Titans. I bought mine at Stone Mountain Nissan- great place. The city is just a huge market, w/ people buying new cars every 3 yrs or so. great deals on everything. It's worth flying there, taking delivery, and driving home even if you live 1000 miles away. (plus it makes that break-in period go a lot faster)

just bought in ATL

Yeah I just bought my Titan in the ATL.

Pretax but after rebate I got mine for about $4800 off MSRP where MSRP was $30,360. If you're looking in Atlanta, let me know and I'll give you the name of who I delt with.

Specs:

Titan SE King Cab
4x2
Galaxy
Offroad
Rockford Fosgate
Utility Bed
Big Tow
Steprails

Had it a total of three days and I was loving the rain yesterday. Huge improvement over my 95 Maxima.
