Thanks, Adam. Adam was the reason I was able to get such a nice deal. Although in the end i was not able to purchase thru nissandotcom Adam set the benchmark for my negotiations locally. Thanks again Adam! By the way I love my truck..........great power and love the exhaust note!
Wish I would have read the posting by the boss before I bought my truck! I started out calling a large national dealer in Clearwater, Fl. They had a 2004 king cab advertised for $17988.00 including the $2000.00 rebate. The sticker price was $24xxx.00 ....
I am going to assume this was Autoway Nissan? I'm looking for a truck this weekend and am going to finally decide F150 (X-plan price is compelling) or the Titan. I've been perusing this thread for months looking for any good/bad indications from this area (but finally joined Titan-Talk today... woohoo!). I live one county south of Clearwater and was debating which Nissan dealer to visit, so now I know where NOT to go.
If I go Titan I'll post my experiences here but now I'll avoid that dealer. I had a bad experience when I bought my 2000 Tundra and warned anybody willing to listen about that slimy dealership (Stadium Toyota in Tampa, FL) Sorry to hear of your problems but its good of you to post and warn others.
Be safe and enjoy your new truck!

Reason: typo
I am starting to look for a new truck, and after driving the F150 against the Titan, all things equal I might add. 4x4, big motor in Ford, crew cab etc. the Titan blew me away. One of the guys at work last weeks said he was buying a new truck and was almost signing for the F150 when I asked if he had driven the Titan. The next night he did and 3 days later he showed up to work in a silver crew cab SE. Niiiice truck. I guess if Ford had the same feel on the butt dyno it would be closer for me, but the Titan snaps the F150's legs.
Just bought my Titan on Martin Luther King Day (1 week ago today). It's an 05, 4X4, LE. Red Alert color with DVD, Navigation, Off Road, Big Tow, Sunroof, and bed extender. Basically, it's a pretty loaded truck.
Like a lot of folks, I did my research and printed out my Edmunds and KBB stuff and took it to the dealer. Edmunds said that most new Titan's in my area were going for about $1500 over invoice. Started negotations by telling them I wanted to make this a short visit and would pay $1500 over invoice and not a penny more. To make a long story short, they offered $500 over invoice because the truck I bought had the DVD and Navigation, which are two expensive options I really didn't want. In the end, I'm happy I got them and was very impressed with Empire Nissan in Ontario (California). Sales manager was no pressure and they had me out the door in just over two hours.
All that said, don't forget the dealer also has holdbacks, and other financial incentives to move the trucks. In the end, he'll make significantly more than the $500 over invoice I paid.
True but hold back is not a guarantee of income for the dealer. They have to hit factory quotas for that $$$. They get bonuses on # sold, too...the later in the year, the deeper the discounts.
84 month/70K, Gold Preferred Extended warranty, Zero deductible, cost $1325 at Marlboro Nissan, 740 Boston Post Road (Rte 20), Marlboro, MA 01752. p: 800-689-6560, f: 508-460-6356.
This is the price they quoted me on the phone. I live in MD and the dealer here matched it but grumbled about it being his cost. I checked with another dealer over the phone (Landers - 662-349-5557) and they gave me a price in the mid 1600. They said the $1325 was a good price and I should jump at it. I did.
I hope this helps someone out there.
Took the plunge, it's all the fault of you guys here!
Well,
After looking at the Tundra, Ridgeline and reading all about them and the Titan, the Titan won hands down. This Mother's day weekend, a local dealer was offering 7000 off 3 top models of LE, 2 4by4s and 1 4by2.
I ended up getting the 4 by 2 black, with Navigation, DVD, Tow, Side Curtin Airbags, Sunroof etc for 31,850. Was this a good deal? Almost too easy, no negotiations necessary, trucks SUVs are not moving very fast around here, everyone is buying the Prius and other hybrids, which made me think the go the other way and buy a gas guzzler, especially since I'm self-employed and could use the SUV loophole tax and fully depreciate it this year. They sold me the 100K/7 year warranty for $1695 too.
Needless to say, this baby seemed so much more than the Tundra I was looking at. The other 2 were nice and 4by4s, but they had the off road packages and DVD, but no Nav or side curtin bags or sunroof, and I figured that the one time a year I go to Tahoe for the snow wasn't as valuable to me as having Nav and side curtin used every day.
But if anyone wants a 4X4 LE with off road, they have 2 for the same price as mine, although the sale may be up.
Basically it was 5000 dealer discount and the 2000 Nissan rebate.
After reading all the postings here I realized that whatever things were going wrong in the first year were at least being addressed by Nissan and people were generally not as angry as the Tundra owners who couldn't get Toyota to admit there was brake problems.
I never saw so many complaints about a Toyota product on the State Consumer complaint list, but I also had a Sienna which during the 2000s had the dreaded possible oil sludge problem as well as a tranny that went out at 56000 miles, fortunately I convinced them that the 6500 repair should be covered by the powertrain warranty.
Anyway, the navigation system on this truck is sweet, and much better than the aftermarket Alpine I had on my Sienna...
Thanks Titan guys, for steering me in the right direction...
EDIT (wow didn't realize this thread was so many pages LONG)
When I called the dealer I just bought my Titan from he started at Invoice and said they'd like to make 600 over invoice. I said I'd like to pay $400 over invoice (made the truck an even 35k) we agreed on $500. All in about oh.... 10 seconds. Why did I agree to that? Because they weren't jerking my chain. Up front and honest about what they wanted. I got a Titan and they got a sale. I also felt the dealer/salesman deserved it. As I was deciding between the trucks, he arranged for their affiliate Ford dealer to have a F250 brought over one night so I could compare both side to side and test drive them both. THAT is service.
I continue to praise Courtesy Nissan in Altoona, PA. Traded a perfect '03 F-150 SCrew, 4x4, Lariat LOADED with 30K miles on a "04 4x4 Titan XE Crew (optioned right) for the truck and only 500.00!!!! Had the '04 Titan with only a minor brake problem w/15k miles and traded for a loaded '05 4x4 Crew LE. Courtesy showed me what I paid for the '04 (26,500) off invoice minus rebates on the '05. I take very good care of my vehicles and the dealer realizes that.
How could I pass up deals like this?
I could have bought a Dodge from the same dealership w/$8,000 rebate from invoice during the same visit. Opted not to do the Dodge thing.
Service is great here and Jim IS the Sales Manager to deal with.
I'm happy with them!!
I have glanced at a few prices in the Atlanta area for used Titans. I say "glanced" because the price I saw being asked for a 2004 King Cab was painful to see. A few other sightings of used prices that aren't quite what I thought they would be has me wondering if the Titan is suffering a bit in the used market.
I also wonder if the stories regarding the required major parts replacements are taking their toll. My daughter is always chiding me for driving the "lemon". I tell her to not "diss" my truck, and that anybody could have a bad truck mfg. day. OK, so the entire rear end has been replaced after both axle seals blew out. So the entire brake system had to be replaced, and the entire instrument panel, and all the heater control mechanisms (twice), and the transmission cooler lines, and the gas tank float - Hey, it could happen to anybody.
I still like the truck. I think I owe more on it than its worth due to the rapid depreciation, but that's OK, I like the truck. The crew cab holds the whole family quite well, and it sits up great for a 4x2. I didn't expect to get to know the service advisors at the local dealership by name, but its good to get to know new people. It keeps you fresh.
I do hope these engines and transmissions turn out to be good for about 250,000 miles. That will make up for a lot of the crap endured so far.
