Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

This may be a repeat but do all shopping through the internet before ever stepping foot in the door. This will save you a lot of haggling and headaches unless your an expert negotiator. Request all contact be by email, some salesman will resort to instinct and call you. Then you get into questions like "what are you looking for?", "what are you looking to spend?". All ratholes you don't want to go down in this process. Tell them what you want, refer to your inquiry and ask that they email you with details and best price. By the time you walk into a dealership you should have a price, thats close to invoice, and an appointment with the person you have been corresponding with via email. If goes well, this should be the first time you speak outside of email. At this point all you have to negotiate is trade in (if you have one). Its also a good idea to be pre-approved for outside financing for many reasons but give them a chance to beat it if they want to try. You may end up with an even better deal. Bottom line here is you are removing all the sales tricks and gimicks from the equation. They can't pull those tricks through email and they know they don't have time to anyway. You are working the same way with other dealers so they have to act fast with a good price to get you in for the buy.

Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

I got my great deal from using this very thread. I found a dealer whose salesman was advertising Titans for $500 under invoice in this thread. I emailed the internet sales manager & asked him if they were still offering that deal. I told him exactly what I wanted & how much I would pay. I wanted a barebones XE 2wd in Smoke color & wanted to pay $18,607.

He emailed me back & told me that they had stopped doing the $500 under invoice deal, but he'd make an exception for me. He said the least optioned Smoke XE KC 2wd he could find came with the XE preferred package, floor mats, splash guards, under seat storage, & spray in bed liner. The price he quoted me after rebate was $19,888, MSRP was $25,635.

The only fees I incurred were a $50 delivery fee because the dealer had to drive it 50 miles from a different lot, a $35 documentary fee, $93 registration fee, & $2019 in tax for a grand total of $22085.

I did call the internet manager at the dealer we bought my wife's 2003 Altima 3.5SE from to see if he could match the price, & he could only get within $300. I also went to a couple of dealers a couple of weeks ago & tried to lowball the lot sales people, just for kicks. The best price they could offer was $100 over invoice. They claimed that was employee pricing.

Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

Cars.com will give you the current invoice price, and any rebates. Holdback is given to each dealer when vehicle arrives. Dealer can use it to finance their inventory for 3 months. Sometimes manufacturers also give the dealer extra cash to move year end inventory.

Example: 2006 SE CC. List was $30,117.00. With a little homework, my out the door cash price was $24,500.00 inc. tax and document fees.

Dealers today have to get to their quota, to get a good allotment of next years vehicles. It isn't just about $$$ anymore.

Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

Anyone ever find a good website like these for prices in Canada? All I have really found is a "black book" website that is really limited and doesn't have anywhere near the resources of a kbb.com etc....

Why can't you cross the line and buy in Montana or Idaho?

Some Canadian law prevent that?

I haven't really looked into it but I've been told that the amount of paperwork required is huge and with the way the Canadian government likes to tax, even with the drastically reduced sticker price, it would still cost more in the end. Just what I've been told anyways.....

The dreaded VAT....they'd probably make you pay it...plus.

Just got my VAT return today...were were in NS in July.

Prices here for 06 close outs would make you weep.

6 grand + off invoice on GM, Ford, Dodge...Toyota and Nissan don't have a program...why I don't know. Best deal on XE list 24, buy now 19.

Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

Ya, I know even the ordinary sticker price makes me want to weep compared to the prices up here. Everytime I see a thread on TT that says "I just payed 33k for my fully loaded titan--did I pay too much" or something to that effect really does almost bring me to tears.

But I really wish I could do better reasearch on the web for Canadian invoice prices, markup etc--all the stuff kbb.com gives you guys. I might be in the market to trade my wife's Canyon in due to a possible job change for me (probably for a Xterra I'm thinking) but would like to price some stuff out first....

Re: Best way to find a good price on a Titan

Wish I could help, but have no contacts in Canada....I've helped friends buy new locally for years.

I would think dealers in Edmonton/Calgary would be offering deals, and you might check the online newspapers classfied section in Canada for ads in Vancouver or Toronto.
