Tailgate won't open

Off to pick up 30 bags of pre-mix...got all checked out
from the lumber yard and the yard guy is going to fork
it into my bed...tailgate won't open! Yes it's unlocked....

Looking at the tailgate, the right side unhinges but the
left side won't...I push the right side totally shut and try
again...still won't come loose. It's almost like the lift lever
gets the right side but nothing is happening internally on
the left side.

Anybody got any ideas before I have to deal with the dealer?

BTW..those bags of pre-mix are heavy to lift by hand over
the top of the tail.......

i played with my stuck tailgate (when i slammed it too hard, i guess)
with turning the key side to side and pulling the lever up and down few times then it clicked back to normal

Re: Tailgate won't open

You can remove the cover plates on bedside...at least on the 04's and just pull the release arms. Mine had the clap just come off... same symptom.

Also the turning key and pull / release handle sometimes gets things back in order.

Exactly, mine did this so I pulled the cover off and one of the clips had opened up. reattached it and no problem.

Re: Tailgate won't open

My tailgate stuck one time and trapped my snowboards inside.... but that was because my tonneau cover froze to it. Sliding a credit card along the beading to break the seal did the trick and off we went.

Too bad the lifts were shut down because a tree fell on a generator.

Re: Tailgate won't open

Same thing happened to me. I opened the gate thru the bed-side cover. One of the cheap yellow clips that holds the rods in place had popped open.

Hey Nissan, how about an improvement here. Being able to reliably open the tailgate is a kind of important feature for a pick-up. Ya know? Other than that I have had no problems in 5 years and love my Titan!

Re: Tailgate won't open

Picked up 1 3/4 yards of road gravel, emptied and went to close the tailgate. Apparently a rock got in the hinge and threw off the alignment causing 'something' and the clip (or both) to pop off inside. (I say clip b/c one may have already been popped open) I felt it in the handle immediately. Thanks to this thread I had the tailgate opened, sprayed with lubricant, adjusted and put back together in about 25 minutes.
