Second, the Aux should probably only used with a unit that has a Line out and not a headphone out only. Just a thought.
Third, I'm cool with the CD/Radio volume difference. The reason, I know the quality of CD output, I don't know what I going to get from the Radio.
Forth, I'm going to buy an Aftermarket XM radio unit and plug it into the AUX and test my own theory, and if it does what you say, I'll be calling too.
I have had the SSV turned off from day one, and I'm having the same reception problems. I have had many car stereos over the years from OEM to aftermarket Blaupunkt and Pioneers, and I've never experienced a radio with poorer reception than this. I live about 10 miles out of Pittsburgh, and the city stations barley are received. I drive in to the city everyday with the radio fading in and out the entire time! This does not seem to be anything normal or fixable without the replacement of the unit itself. The dealer checked all the antenna connections already, and i have a call in to Nissan.
We are starting to get close to the same page now.
On all of my high quality home theater equipment, and most amps which have multiple inputs, there is a bias or level control. Some are hardware some are soft/firmware.
These need to be leveled so as you switch from one to another they provide the same dB level from the output. My wife's 04 Maxima has the same style of radio, and it does NOT change in volume from one mode to the other. She also can receive radio stations I cannot when we are parked next to each other.
This is what we want Nissan to review with R/F and fix. Find why reception is so poor, and adjust the amp to provide even output levels.
My Pathfinder Bose w/6-disc CD changer had the same noticeable volume difference between CD and radio operation. I think you're right when you say the bias level control is outta wack, but i don't think it can be adjusted in these type of factory OEM units. It would be nice if there was a bias control mode, but looking at the manual there's not.
My radio reception is on par with my Pathfinder's, which wasn't all that hot until i got out of the boonies and closer to DC or Baltimore.
I can live with it until somebody truly IDs the problem.

I connected my XM Roady to the AUX port and it sounded terrible. The XM Roady has a line level output but this output can be adjusted. I adjusted it all the way up and it sounded better than the FM radio but still not as good as the CD player. I think I saw a cable that will let me connect a line level output to the SAT input (sort of like a PIE/Blitzsafe cable). I'm going to try it out.

heres the pdf for how to install the nissan xm radio, maybe it can help you to find where to hook yours up another way.
i have had my TITAN w/ the RF system now for 3 days and just tonight when i was driving home i noticed the fading in-n-out of my cd. we figured out how to cure that yet guys?
The rf system has a speed sensitive loudness control, faster you go the higher the volume, slower you go the lower the volume. Could be a problem with that. I heard that can be turned off. Check manual, turn it off and see if it persists. Good luck.
Yea, that's the SSV. You can turn that feature off.

Wow, this site is great...lots of help and advice. I just bought a Titan LE King Cab a week ago, and I love it. I got the RF radio b/c sound was very important to me. But, I cannot tell you how dissapointed I am in the FM Radio reception. It's terrible and VERY annoying when the sound quality jumps all the time. Sounds almost like it's going in and out of stereo. Just my 2 cents, but mine seams to "go out" of stereo when I am driving...not usually sitting at a light. I wonder if it's a interferance issue. Just wandering is it even worth taking to the dealer or should I just call Nissan first...any thoughts?
There is nothing the dealer can do but make sure the wires are plugged in. Most of us have check this and nothing is disconnected. I would guess something needs to be done to the receiver mechanicaly (replacement would be nice!)
I have to say, my FM reception is better than the aftermarket stereo I had in my other truck. However, I had another problem the other day....Have any of you had your CD player just quit playing in the middle of a song? Mine quit the other day, and I could'nt change tracks or change CD's. I turned it off, turned it right back on, and it has worked fine since. Very weird.
My FM reception is terrible, especially when moving. The dealer check the connections and could find nothing wrong with that. The dealer contacted Nissan for some guidance. I was pleased to find that the dealership was so progressive. When talking to the Nissan rep, he said that Country Nissan had called in with the problem. Sounds like the type of service department that will do good by me.
Anyhow, Nissan needs to see how widespread the problem may or may not be, so call if you have the radio problem.
I have the same issue with RF RDS 6CD no SAT. I'm calling today. I love the web!
I also have the problem with FM reception. Luckily I work at the dealership.... but I also know that Nissan doenst make thier own radios and it normally takes 2 months on average to recieve them once they are ordered..... So this whole ordeal maight take a while guys
Just to get your mind off of the subject, do what I do.... listen to the exhaust!
I have been reading many compliants on this board in reference to the radio problems. I have been considering purchasing the Titan, but I am concerned about this problem. I think if many of the people that are having this problem report it to the Office Of Defects, then Nissan may wakeup and take some action. The web site of Office Of Defects is:

You would be able to file the problem there. The more people that file the complaint, the quicker Nissan should take action.
If you let the "radio" issue stop you from buying the Titan...you're missing out, way out. Heck if you're that concerned don't get the RF system and put in an aftermarket set up later. Once you get behind the wheel and hear the the engine rumble you won't listen want to anything else anyways.

Well said.....
Just keep the complaints with Nissan and they will fix.
