Brake Noise

Has anyone experienced a moaning brake noise? It happens to me the first time I hit the brakes. After that, its fine the rest of the time I drive. I just picked up my truck 3 days ago, So I haven't made it back to the dealer yet.

Are you in a water rich environment or snow? You may be experiencing a surface rust forming on the rotors/pads that is being taken off during your first brake application. Take a look at your rotors before you leave next time.

Haven't heard a moaning noise but I do get a thunking or clanking noise occasionally when I brake. Once under semi-hard braking was more like a bang. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Are you on slippery surfaces when you get these noises? If you are, they are probably the anti-locks working and this isn't a problem, that is how they sound.

Thanks, keane. Have just been Googling this and found some other forums that describe the clunking noises as ABS self-test. Never had these fancy ABS brakes before.

The service manager warned me about the noise before I took delivery of the truck. He said that they had checked it out for a couple of other people and it is 'normal' - After 2 1/2 months it doesn't concern me anymore.

Yup, I had this loud noise (one time only) when I was going down the slope on my drive way. It was LOUD, I thought something came loose. Happened one time and that was it. Maybe that was when I wasn't used to the new truck's brakes. Usually the when the abs is active (from my other cars), it makes a grindding sound, but this one made one loud thunk.

The anti-lock brake actuator sounds like that.
