It is still cold up here in the Northwest so I usually have the heater on all the time. The problem is if I turn off the ignition and forget to turn off the fan knob, the A/C will automatically turn itself on the next time I start the truck. This could be a problem if I travel a longer distance than usual and forget the A/C has turned itself on (gas mileage!!!).
Now I need to remind myself to turn the fan knob off before turning the ignition off. I used to have a Dodge and this did not happen.
I know what you mean. When I picked up my Titan last Friday, the A/C was on and when I went out to drive it later that night, I noticed that the A/C was still on even though I had the heat on. I am going to have to make a conscious effort to remember to turn it off as well.
Turn it off defrost. If you turn the knob over to defrost the A/C automatically turns on. It's a feature I kind of like. Just turn the knob a click to the left and you shouldn't have the problem...

May I ask why you like the defrost and A/C on at the same time?
When temperatures dip below freezing I like to have the defrost on and the A/C off for a few minutes to melt the ice on the windshield before leaving to work. Then when I am ready to leave the ice is melted and I don't have to scrape it off the winshield. I would think leaving both on would delay the process. On the other hand, I read in the manual that it is an advisable practice to 'excersize' the A/C at least once a month for a few minutes for lubrication. Maybe thats why Nissan designed it that way.
Just a comment for all of you. I heard gasoline prices may go above $2.00/gal this summer. For a 28 gallon fuel tank. That will amount to &%X)#...^$$$ = $1,000,000.00

It won't really delay the heating up... The main reason the A/C comes on with the defroster is to get rid of humidity. When your window fogs up and you can't see while driving in heavy rain, just flip the defroster on and since the A/C turns on, too, it'll evaporate the fog off the window MUCH more quickly...

What the others said...plus, I haven't owned any car in the last number of years that DOES NOT have this feature.
Gas in California was way over 2 bucks last year as it is now!

I have a problem with my Titan that the dealer says is "normal operation."
I turn on my defroster and of course the A/C compressor comes on. If I leave it on over 5 minutes, I cannot shut the A/C compressor off. I select vent with air directed in any location and it still blows cold. I have to increase the temp to be able to stand it in the cab. However, if I shut off the ignition and turn it back on.......the A/C compressor is off and everything works great, until I flip if to defrost again. If I only leave it on defrost a minute or two, I don't have this problem. Will some of you try your truck and see if it works that way for you?

My complaint with the AC is that it is impossible to shut off the AC once the knob is turned to MAX AC or Defrost in my 05. If I turn the ac off I still feel cool air coming through the vents for the rest of the ride. The only solution is to turn the truck off then back on. Usualy though, I just eat the cost of the extra gass and turn the temp control on. I wonder if I got into an accident turning my truck off and on on the freeway if nissan would finaly fix this bug in our trucks.
It sucks in the morning because I forget to turn the Defroster off at night.

Wow. 4 year old thread back from the dead! I love it.
This is just the way it is with our trucks. It explains it in your user manual (see page 4-13). If the temp is above 36F, and you run the defroster longer than a minute or so, the a/c compressor continues to run to dehumidify the air. It's supposed to only run until either the fan is shut off, or the truck is shut off, but in my experience shutting the fan off doesn't seem to do anything. Unless it's really cold out, if you turn the defrost on and leave it on longer than a minute, the a/c compressor is running until you shut the truck off again. Annoying.
I just make sure I don't leave the defroster on too long. I'll sometimes run it almost a minute, switch it to vent or something and immediately switch it back on. That seems to give me longer defrost time without the compressor continuing to run.
