question about ipdm relays

Just switched the relays to fix my truck. Dealer has been nice enough to let me pick some relays out of bad replaced ipdm's. Anyone know if the ECM relay which I replaced with the fog light relay is the same as the others? How long can I leave the fog light relay in its place? Will the other two relays be reliable as replacements?

I am assuming that the boards the dealer has all have bad ECM relay switches...so I was going to gather relays from the other three spots as spares. Any info much appreciated.

Thanks.

Jonathan

Re: question about ipdm relays

Same relays for fog light and ECM. Cannot say how long it will last, some peoples have reported no problems once they swap the relay. Nissan need to realizd the problems and make available these relay for sale as an item.

Better yet, it would be nice if Nissan found a better built relay and issued a voluntary recall.

Re: question about ipdm relays

Apparently the '04-'06 Titans can have issues with their ipdm and the switched relays usually will go out soon. There is an updated ipdm p/n 284B6-ZC00A. They are available for around $100. IIRC there is one or two components that must be salvaged off the original when replacing.

0n our last test the replacement relay lasted 3 days & the second replacement relay lasted 2. You may have better luck.

What was the permanent fix in this case? Did you replace the entire board? Thanks. I am gonna get a bunch of these relays from old boards at the dealer and hope for the best....then maybe nissan will issue a recall eventually. My dealer in Reno told me he has four of these on order so seems like a widespread problem. Thanks.

Re: question about ipdm relays

Yes replacing the IPDM was the final fix. If I remember correctly the part # has been updated so hopefully they fixed the problem.

Ihave an 08 SE, KC, BT and the IPDM had an intermittent fault at around 800 miles, then again at 1200 miles and then again around 1202 miles. It was towed to the dealer twice in the first 1200 miles and after the IPDM was replaced I had very little problems with it. So if the 2007 and up Titans have the upgraded IPDM mine must have gotten a leftover one??

No way to know unless you have the old part with a p/n on it. Sort of doubt they'd use an old one, but idk.

Could have just been a bad new one, (i.e. 0.1% failures, is 1000 defect per million, so there would still be around 50 bad boards if this is their acceptable percentage from the board manufacturer), or did they replace the board each time you took the Titan in, which could indicate something that is plugged into it is taking it out.

Re: question about ipdm relays

No, since it was intermittent they cleared codes and it ran and there is no code for the IPDM since it shorted intermittently and through other codes like key codes, etc. The 3rd time the finally figured it out and put an IPDM into my truck from a new truck on the lot and put mine into the new truck. The new truck then had the same symptons as mine and mine was cured. They never told me if the left that one in my truck and ordered a new one for the truck on the lot and I forgot to ask.

Re: question about ipdm relays

from what i have read. its not the relay, but something in the IPDM making them go out. if this is true, you can keep changing the relay, and they will keep failing eventually. the only true fix is the new (with different part #) IPDM that is fixed.

That would make sense....since my fog lights still work with the alleged bad ECM relay. However, one week almost and still going strong so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
