Droan and vibration at 1500 RPM-UPDATE..Problem found
Hey Titan guru's..I have more to add to my problem. Here is the original problem....(When my truck hits 1500 RPM I am getting a vibration in the gas pedal and floor board. It also has a droan/metal vibration sound. It happens mostly around 50-54 MPH in OverDrive. It does not happen if you put the truck in neutral and coast. Can happen in any gear below 54MPH at 1500 RPM though. I feel a slight vibration even in park at 1500 RPM (groan). It is worse when the drive train is under a load as I explained above. Any ideas? Does this sound like an exhaust manifold problem? Engine/Transmission mount? It is a 2007 Crew Cab with only 25,000 miles on it.
Update...I have been driving it in 4th because of the vibration in OD. I had the dealer look at it and they could not find anything. Since then it has been jumping on occasion (almost like the transmission is losing power from the torque converter). It shakes the whole truck almost like the engine is going to die, but the RPM's do not change. Does this sound like a transmission going out or torque converter problem. Please help. It is driving me crazy.
Update 10-16-2009
Finally figured it out. I went by my local Nissan dealer (Barr Nissan in Columbia, TN) and talked to the service manager (James, super nice guy). He said to bring it by next week and he would drive it with me and see what was going on since it had gotten worse. I asked him if I needed to check the transmission fluid. He said that would be fine. As soon as I got home I popped the hood with it warm and running, and pulled the trans dipstick to check the fluid. It was a little low on the stick but it looked fine(light red not dark). . Smelled a little weird, so I put it between my fingers and rubbed...I could feel grit. I thought "must be dirt", so I put it back in and checked again..grit again. Turns out it was metal shavings. I checked it 2 more times and metal shavings both times. Looks like I will be getting a new trans next week. Truck only has 25K miles on it. Hopefully this will fix my problem and I can go on loving my Titan like I loved my 2004. Thanks for all the suggestions. This place is a world of knowledge for the do-it-yourselfer. I will let you know the final say when it is all said and done.
Update-10-22-2009
It was not a bad transmission. Pan was clear. They dropped the pan and serviced the trans(no charge..thanks James!) Dealer said there was grit in the dipstick tube, that was what was on the stick. He said he thinks the Torque converter (he is still not sure) is unbalanced or going out. Wants to wait until it fails to try to replace. Said it could be the an unbalanced flywheel, or cat problem. Feels the vibration and jumpiness. Frustrating problem for us both. I will let you know when something finally fails and I get this problem fixed.
How many miles? Have you serviced the transmission at all?

It has close to 26,000 now. Not time for a trans service yet. Probably gonna take it back to the dealer. They were looking for engine/exhaust problems before. I will get them to check out the trans this time (fluid, etc.)

Are you running the stock exhaust?

Everything is stock. No modifications other than upgrade from 17 inch steel wheels to factory 18 aluminum LE wheels and tires.
Ok, I thought you might have a muffler swap that could cause a pedal and floor vibration at a certain RPM, but we can probably rule that theory out. When I had a Flowmaster 70 muffler swap done way back when, I started to notice a pedal and floor vibration at a certain RPM. After I later swapped to a Magnaflow muffler, the pedal and floor vibration was gone.

The rattling could be due to heat shields. Do a search on that. It could be caused by the other issues your truck is having. Good luck... Hopes it's a minor issue.
