Ok. The bilsteins are .5" longer than stock, no debating that. That is like adding a .5" lift spacer on top of your stock setup. To get additional lift, you change the setting. What does changing the setting do? It lifts the lower spring perch. Lifting the lower spring perch makes the distance between the upper spring perch and lower spring perch smaller. When you put a spring into a smaller space, the spring has to compress more, and is under more pressure than what it would be stock, hence "preloading." Preloading a spring, in essence, makes it stiffer. A stiffer spring will make suspension compress less, and that's where you get your lift.
Think about guys running coilovers. They have an adjustable nut as one of the spring perches. When they tighten that nut, the spring is compressed into a smaller space, putting it under more pressure, which makes it stiffer.
If I am wrong somewhere in this, please correct me.

Ok I think I am catching onto all this so what you are saying is if I have a 1.5" spacer and and the bilstein 5100s only the .5" that it adds will efect me having cbc the other inch will make the truck look lifted but wont effect the coil bucket being closer to the uca's? Is this right?
Question about the stiffer springs....Are stiffer springs going to give you a considerably rougher ride? I am about to pull the trigger on 4 new Billys and am thinking about replacing the springs while I am in there. I know billys on the top setting is pretty much out of the question as far as ride quality goes. If I stick with stock springs and I go with the middle perch, will the ride suffer considerably? What if I went with '08+ springs on the bottom perch? There are a million different options and I can't decide, lol!
PS...2007 4x4 CC, I am looking to level or, at most, lift the maximum before CB contact or having to replace the UCAs, etc. Daily driver, 0% off-road.

It's all personal preference. If you are considering middle perch with stock springs, the ride is great, IMO.
If you are debating between stock springs on middle perch or 08+ on bottom, I don't think there will be much difference in ride or in height gained, and I would save my money and use the stock on the middle, but that's me.
Pretty much everyone that has tried the top perch says it is way to stiff of a ride, but I can't comment from personal experience.
No matter how you go though, the 5100's are much better over the OEM's!

Correct. Cbc come from the strut being too long. Adding a spacer that is larger than recommended, or adding the recommended spacer + 5100's, makes the strut to long.

Mack207, I thought, depending on your year and drive, you could put a spacer on top of the billys? Like in this thread, which you are aware of... Leveling your titan - overview
I'm an 07 4x4 so I should be able to toss a 1.5" spacer on top of my new billys, right?

Yes, you can put a spacer on top. It meds to be .5" smaller than what's recommended. That being said, I am running a 1.5" spacer and 5100's, along with rc uca's, and I still had to grind the lip off the cb to avoid contact."in theory" doesn't work with these trucks; its "lift at your own risk."

Ok thanks. Think I am going leave them at the 0 mark and with 1.5" and new uca's from RC and sway bar links they have been ordered should be here by wed. or so
Ok about ask one more question then ill have it down. So for example lets say you get a 1.5" spacer and you got Bilstein 5100's and RC uca's and you set the Bilstein's at the middle setting and you have cbc so you take the Bilstein's and put on 0 setting are you still going have same amount of cbc? I promise after this I will have it all figured out.
Yes, if you have contact on the top setting, you'll have contact on the bottom.

I have 1.5" prg spacer,Bilstein 5100's witch will be on bottom setting, RC uca's, RC sway links, and PRG cam bolts. Is there anything else i should get before I put everything on ? What about bump stops?
Yeah you'll need them. Most auto parts have them. I think they're made by Energy Suspension.

This past saturday I installed my Bilstein 5100s on the middle perch along with my 1.5" spacer that I already had from PRG. Before the install i measured the fenders at 37" with the spacer already in. After the install I measured the top of the fenders just a quarter of an inch taller ( much less than what I was expecting). Is there something that I may have done wrong?? Or is that just the result I came up with. I went by the diagram for how to reinstall all the bushings and washers and thought it went pretty smoothly but then nothing seemed to change. The ride quality for the front seems about the same as before but the rear is much more stable and less bouncy. Any advice would be helpful as i am pretty confused. There was no loud sounds or anything that would indicate that the shocks were installed improperly.
Thanks in advance- Adam
