On Saturday I stopped by two offroad stores in San Diego to see how much they would charge to install the Prerunner leveling kit. From what I read, it should take about an hour to install.
The first place I visited was Off Road Warehouse. I told the salesperson I had a 2.5 leveling kit that needed to be installed on a Nissan Titan. He asked what year the Titan was. That should have been my first clue. He called to the back and told them what I had. He then quoted me $275 for the install and $105 for the alignment. After a little chuckle, I left.
The second place I stopped was 4 Wheel Parts. I told the guy behind the counter the same thing I did at the first place. He pulled out a printed sheet and said $165. He wasn't very helpful and seemed more interested in getting back to talking smack with the other employees, so I left.
If anyone can recommend a reasonable place in San Diego or Southern Riverside county to get this kit installed, please let me know.
4 Wheel Parts in Orlando told me $425 to install my Daystar kit and another place quoted me almost $500 and told me that was without the allignment, plus they had to keep the truck for two days. I told them I felt bad for their customers and walked out.

Man I got my Daystar kit installed for $160 and that included the alignment...
Glad you guys walked...
If you want to drive to Orange County, I went to Carli Suspension in Orange and talked to Sage. He charged me 100 dollars and 59 dollars for alignment. He did it in a few hours. He was a cool guy and did an awesome job. The Phone number is 714-273-0278.
I just installed a kit on a 4x with the off-road package and it took just over an hour and that included alignment. So most shops should charge less than 2 hours labor. Its just like replacing the struts, with one small step in the middle.

Lets say the hourly rate (including any benefits) to pay one of these people is $20/hr. Lets say two of them work on your vehicle for a total of $40/hr. Lets say then that it takes a conservative 3 hours then to install your leveling kit. That comes out to $120 total. Add to that an hour alignment, thats another $40/hr for a total of $160 total. So, a maximum fair installation price should be around $160.
So why in the heck are these places quoting upwards of $600 dollars for a leveling kit install???? I WISH I got payed that much an hour! Geez, they make money on you already because you are paying retail for the stuff (assuming you bought the stuff directly from them)... I guess if you DIDN'T buy the stuff from the store that is installing your stuff, I can see a little bit of a premium (they gotta make their money somewhere), but not $500 dollars of premium!
I know the 4 Wheel Parts who put on my wheels and aligned+balanced them charged me $80.00 for all the labor (alignment+balance included) and it took roughly 2 hours for install and alignment. Still a little high I figured, but they matched a deal on the wheels I found on-line so that was cool.

Doberboy- Check these guys out. They did mine for the best price I could find in San Diego. Checked several of the local shops before I went with these guys. Mine was the first Titan they had done but they did it easily. No probs so far.
