Will the stock 18" wheels work with the pro-comp lift kit? i think i read on here somewhere the other day that they will rub on the tie rod's or something? searched but could not find that info. any help is appreciated.
I know it was on here the other day. Have tried to find it, but can't. There was also talk of upside down swaybar endlinks being the problem.
Is there any difference in the 17 and 18" stock wheels as far as backspace and offset goes?? My understanding is that the 18"s are 5" BS, -25mm Offset. Fabtech recommends a 17" wheel with 5" BS, and I'm sure that the procomp is similar. Why would the 17's fit and the 18's not??
Just curious, because i want to order the lift kit this week, but won't be if the stock wheels wont work, cause i can only afford the lift and tires right now, not the wheels.
my stock wheels did not fit with the fabtech 6" lift kit. I do however have 35" x 12.50" tires mounted on the wheels. The tire rubbed not the rim. So if you are running something smaller than a 12.00 width they may work
Just found a great deal on the Toyo Open Country M/T's, size 35x12.50-18 for just less than $275/tire. This is a pretty awesome deal, and would really like to know for sure if it's gonna work or not. Where exactly will they rub, if its on the inner fender, i don't mind trimming. also, i'm planning on the procomp lift, but i think they are pretty much the same design.
Anyone with any other input, I ordered the 6" PROCOMP Stage 1 today from NTW, should be here in 3-5 days. Gotta figure out my tire situation quick. My understanding is that these wheels are GM bolt pattern, correct, so If i can find some used GM wheels, with 5" BS, they should work, correct???
the drop-bracket type kits (CST, Rancho, Fabtech, Procomp, etc) use a custom spindal upright. The new ones have the steering arm cast, or welded if its a CST kit, much higher on the upright to counter the drop bracket kit, so you dont have to lower the steering rack. This may interfere with a 17" rim or one with very little pos. offset.
Thanks greg, i understand that the kits you mentioned are basically all the same principle. however, i see that fabtech recommends a 17x9 wheel with 5" backspace. now, maybe i'm not understanding this correctly, but in that case, shouldn't a 18x8" wheel with 5" backspace fit with no problems whatsoever?? My understanding of it is that the backspace is the same, so the extra width is gained towards the outside of the rim, correct?? Let me make sure i'm understanding backspace correctly, it is the measurement from the mounting surface to the inner most point of the wheel? correct? But offset is what I'm not exactly understanding? I've read before that the stock 18" wheels are 5" BS and -25mm Offset. so that means that it is 25 mm from the centerline of the wheel towards the outside to the mounting surface? I know its all pretty simple really, just having some trouble comprehending at the moment. I've got the 6" Procomp on the way, and want to be sure my stock wheels will work b4 i go and put it on. Thanks everyone for your help. Can't say that I've been on any site thats been this helpful...although, i've had alot of problems with my Cannondale Quad, and there are some pretty helpful forums out ther for it. This is a great site though.
what i don't understand is i'm looking at a wheel site with 18x9 wheels, 5" BS, and +2mm offset. according to the site i mention above, offset would be 4.5-5"=-1/2" which doesn't = 2mm??? i guess that's why i'm confused
if anyone can offer any explanation it would be appreciated.
