Woohoo! Friday, June 24, was a great day! My PRG/Deaver leaf packs were delivered and then we made the trek to VShortt's casa for the installation of them and my new PRG Bilstein rear shocks. I have 2 days and about 150 miles on them now and the ride is way better than the stock Ranchos and leaf springs. I can't wait until I can get the matching PRG Bilstein coilovers for the front!
Right now I am sitting at about 2" of lift, but we'll see where we end up after it has a couple more days to settle. (After 2 test drives immediately following installation, it was showing over 2.5" lift.) As I said the ride is much better than stock because the spring rate is more linear than with the stock overload leaf and the Bilsteins are much smoother on the compression and rebound. I haven''t taken it off road or off any sweet jumps yet, but the on road driving shows the rear end to be smoother than the front end with the Rancho coil overs and PRG kit.
The installation was done during a PRG party at VShortt's house. We had a lot of fun, and also found out that working with leaf springs wasn't as easy as we were hoping for. (buncha rookies!) I am working on a full installation summary for both the shocks and the leaf packs, but here are a few things to note:
-- Leaf assemblies were most easily handled when off of the vehicle.
-- Driver's side leaf spring removal installation depends on if you have the driver's side lock box or not (if you do, you have to remove the lock box)
-- The holes for the alignment pin like to move around while compressing the leaves, so use a screwdriver to help keep them in line.
-- It helps to have multiple people and multiple jacks/jack stands!
Well, more to come in the Installation Summary, but for now you can check out some pics here:
