Help, Upper A-arm is hitting coil bucket...

Hi there, yesterday I was inspecting my crappy oem 17" tires and decided to take a look at the suspension components, well I saw 2 little marks(like a small scratch or nick, you can denifinetly see it and fell it if you pass your hand trough it, its maybe about as deep as a penny would be) on each coilbucket from where the upper a-arm is hitting it.

Is this normal after PRG leveling kit? I have a 4x4 Crew Cab with the off road and have a 2" leveling kit in the front and 1" in the rear.

Anyone else noticed this?

How can this happen, by hitting a large bump or a large hole?

THX in advance

No, you generally don't see this on a 2" kit. It happens when the wheel goes to full droop like if you run over a large bump and the wheel drops back down all the way down before the rest of the truck.

The actual contact of the arm to the bucket can be rectified by using an angle grinder to enlarge those two nicks you see to about 1/4". Very small modification.

Should I be worried?

I guess I need to take it easier on the speed bumps then.

I will try to take some pics this afternoon, doubt it if the nicks can be taken by the camara...

According to PRG, it is more of an annoyance factor for you at this point. A little grinding on the bucket and you should not have any more contact. I am still surprised you experience this with only a 2" kit.

For specific details on the grinding, try calling PRG.

I noticed this recently with my 2" kit as well. Like Havock said, it only occurs over a large bump. It definitely does not seem to be making hard enough contact that would cause any damage, other than the little nicks. Sounds like a good excuse to get a grinder...

I Have Seen This On Mine With The Daystar 2.5 Lift I Believe When You Install The Spacers It Lowered The A-arm So It Has Less Clearance.

K-MU.
Don't worry about this, but if you have marks in the upper arm I really doubt they come from speedbumps (you probably did some moderate off roading or dunning).
Its all good,When I found out about this marks I took my truck to a proffesional fabricator he told me they where there because I wasn't going fast enough......to clear the whoopies.......(joke) but is not critical, the tiny shaft that comes standard in our shocks would brake before the a-arm.

THX uys for the replies, would some larger/heavier tires cause more damage or the same? I havent decided if I will go with some 305x70 MT/Rs on oem 17" wheels or some Toyo 325x60r18 on aftermarket wheels...

I think these might be what you need:

Yes, Greg Gagnon can get them for you. Read about them in the following post, (post also covers the heavy duty lowering shackle that will work in unison with the PRG/Deaver mini-pak, for roughly half the lift of the mini alone).

weld-on droop stops for severe duty

swarren1: Im interested in those a-arm stops from PRG, do you know anything else about them? on where do you install them? they have to be welded in place?

For $49 they are not to expensive and if they are going to help reduce the bottoming(thump noise when goign over a speed bump or hitting a large hole) out of the front suspension, I will get them soon.
