New shocks and Alignment?

Im getting the new Rancho Triple x shocks and was told that installation was 200 dollars and a alignment was 98. Question is- 1.Do I really need to get an alignment for only putting on the front shocks? 2. Can I install these by myself? I am pretty mechanically inclined, Ive changed shocks and other things on my cars and Im good with Motorcycles. Do I stand a chance on doing this on my own? Thanks.

Re: New shocks and Alignment?

Yes you'll probably need an alignment.

It shouldn't be extemely hard to install yourself. Your using your stock springs and upper mounts right? You'll need some common hand tools and a set of spring compressors (can pick those up at Autozone for $30).

Cool, Im gonna give it a shot! If all else fails I will just take them into the shop and have them put the springs on for me. Wasnt sure about the alignment tho! Thanks for the reply.

Re: New shocks and Alignment?

You WILL need to adjust the toe, mandatory if you raise it at all.

Greg is toe when the wheels look like the back of a baja bug? I put your leveling kit in my 4x4 and have this effect. Haven't had the alignment checked yet. If I take the blocks out and buy the DRs and crank them up to 2.5 or 3 inches will I need the alignment done again. I would guess yes.

Re: New shocks and Alignment?

I just got a set of Greg's Bilsteins for the rear of my Titan and the install was a snap. I had a 4X4 shop put on my front end spacer and it amounted up to a remove and replace of the front shocks. It seems like they charged me 35.00.
After seeing was it entailed I could have easily done it myself. BTW- I did have to be aligned.

Re: New shocks and Alignment?

troutking, that is camber (the vw effect). you may need that adjusted, but usually not. If the toe (parallelism) that will also have a megative effect on the camber. If the wheels are toe'd in (as would be the case with any leveling kit) the wheel will want to "climb" and will actually rasie the truck and it will want o force the bottom of the wheels toward each other.
