Who's lifted and still towing???

I'm considering a PC 6" lift and am wondering how much it will hinder my towing ability (if at all). I haven't towed anything yet but I'd like to be able to tow my car on a trailor in the future, I'm assuming it'd weigh around 5-6k pounds. Will I still be able to do this lifted? Am I going to need to invest in airbags? I tried searching for info on this topic but couldn't find anything. Any help appreciated

I toww my other titan and iits fine. Your springs will be the same as stock, the blocks will add more axle wrap though.

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

Procomp traction bars would fix the axle wrap problem wouldn't it.

Hey Greg, thanks for the quick shipment on my "stuff". I got the Deavers and Bilsteins, but I'm wondering if I keep the 1.5 blocks on the rear with the leaf spring pack lifting it up a bit more, will the traction bars negate any axle wrap that might cause? Or would it be best to lose the blocks to avoid axle wrap altogether? Also, why do you recommend losing the front sways with the Donahoes?

forget the sway bar question, just saw your previous post.

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

I dont "recomend" removing the sway bar, but i recomend trying the ride without it. Its free to try and you may like the results. As for the block and spring, i think it will be too tall. And yes, the traction bars will really help with towing. I recently had a guy with a CST kit who tows a big-o toy hauler and he had major vibration issues and we instlaled the traction bars and all the axle wrap/ vibration issues are gone.

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

Thanks for the advice. I'll try the Deavers alone and then see what it's like. My issue is I like the oem rake and wouldn't mind bringing her azz up a little more with the 2.5 front coilovers. We'll just play with 'er a bit and see.

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

ok I just used a Uhaul tow dolly to pull a 91 honda accord. it was fine except for some uphill spots it didn't downshift and my trans guage was showing it was getting hot. Going 75 at ~2700 rpm didn't do well. When it shifted to 3700 or so the trans cooler when back to normal. I need to get some big brakes. My tires degrade the brake strength.

I've got the Pro Comp 6" with 35's I ended up adding Firestone Air Bags by Ride Rite because I don't like any squating when I'm towing my boat.
Note I am using the stock springs with a 3" spacer underneath maybe the Deavers won't have this problem?
I like the adjustibility of the air bags.Just remember if you are using spring spacers you will also need "cans" which are round metal spacers the exact height of your lift blocks to put under your air bags.Otherwise they don't fit!
As far as towing I'm only pulling about 4500 pounds on a tandem axle trailer so not a problem but I'm confident I could tow at or near capacity with no problems at all.
Wherever you get your lift kit should help with the bags and cans,if not I got mine at 4 Wheel Parts for about $260.00?
Remember if you have the Big Tow Package your 3:36 gears are equal to
4:10's with the 5 speed trans. When changing to 35" tires you will then be running around an effective ratio of 3:80 and speedo will be off {showing slower}by about 5%
Just go for it You'll be glad You did!

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

I towed this weekend with my PC lift. No differance, but you should get about a 5 inch drop down hitch. I didn't have one and used my regular one, and there was a pretty big angle on the hitch. I am going to buy a bigger drop down one before I tow again.

Do you have the bags that mount to the frame and axle or the bags that mount between the frame and leaf springs?

Re: Who's lifted and still towing???

I haven't hitched up my camper yet since the trucks been lifted, however, I had 800 lbs of concrete in the bed last week and the truck only sagged about 1.5". That's with a 3" block and the Deaver mini pack. So my camper should only sag an inch or less. I'll know for sure next week though. Gotta take the camper in to get a state inspection.

From what I have read, the speedo will correct itself after a bit of driving. Somebody else correct me if I am wrong.
