Question 2.5” vs. 2” leveling kit for 4x4

Alright guys. I have a question about leveling kits. I know that Greg recommends a 2” leveling kit for 4x4s. But why? What kinds of problems can be caused by putting a 2.5” kit on a 4x4?

I don't know but I can tell you that with the 2" lift, the downward travel is less than stock. And the upper control arm will hit the strut cover that sits underneath the arm.I've got 2 dings and I haven't even put a tire in a pothole.I still have them on as well as bilstein shocks and deavers on the back. The truck looks better but you'll always have that thought running through your mind of bottoming out.But this is with almost all spacer lifts.Correct me if I'm wrong if someone knows more about spacers.

Re: 2.5” vs. 2” leveling kit for 4x4

The amount the upper arm will hit the coilbucket is reduced about 500:1 between a 2.5 and a 2" lift on the 4wd. We used to offer the 2.5" for the 4wd and after alot of testing determined it was just not acceptable for 99% of all owners. Reducing the lift by just 1/2" made a huge difference. If your upper arm is hitting the coibucket ALOT (with our kit), you most likely have wasted front shocks.

I think the 2" looks just right, the 2.5 my be exactly leavel on paper but it still looks front high to me, unless of coarse you use the rear blocks.
