Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

After a night of some pretty tough abuse on the truck I managed to break my rear leaf spring shackle. This is a weak piece on the truck and have replaced it with a Total Chaos Shackle. It was a while back but though that i would share some pics of the damage to the bed and Line-X. Anyone who drives aggressively on or off-road should consider replacing this weak link before this happens to you.
The last pic is the comparison of the failed and original part.

Re: Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

The other advantage of the TC shackle is it will lower the rear of the Titan 3/4", so if there is just a bit too much rake on your Titan, an easy way to help cure it.

The PRG website currently lists them under "Titan", then the "Lowered Titan" section. Click the link in my sig to get there.

Re: Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

I was on a pretty hairy little mud run that has a lot of bumps and big hits and the rear end of the truck was hitting pretty hard. This may ahve also been a result of the higher spring rate of the deavers and putting more stress on the shackle over a period of time...

Re: Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

I baby my 2006 Titan and noticed this morning that my leaf spring ripped through the bottom of my truck bed.

It's the third one my dealership has seen in the last few months.

Re: Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

That truck had a Fabtech add-a-leaf for a while that is known to break the stock shakels. I belive he later ran my Deaver mini-pack upgrade, but it must have been too late. The stock shackles are a really, really poor design, i think the engineer must have been absent on "shackle day" in college. also, the owner of that truck has been known to drive rather "sportingly".

no, sry Greg, I meant the guy above my post. fdwolfe.

Do you think there's any real concern with them for use as a daily driver who never goes off-road?

Re: Failed rear Shackle = Leaf spring through bed!!!

no concern really as long as the spring doesnt get too stiff. As far as I know there has never been a failure with the stock or mini deaver packs. but i have dealt with plenty of Fabtech lifts that have broken shackles and just about anyone who has the full race-style deaver packs.
